This invention relates to display signs and an object of the invention is to provide a sign which presents three different perspectives, one on approach, another on withdrawing therefrom and a third lying pe pendicular to the sign.
Another object of the invention is to provide a frame structure for the sign which permits mounting the display element for o the purpose of repainting. Another object of the invention is to provide for a very simple, efficient and economical preparation of the display members.
Further objects of the invention are to provide, a sign of the character referred to, which is very simple in its methods of assembly, strong, compact and durable, thoroughly lreliable for its intended purpose and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture and install.
' W'ith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of a novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will hereinafter be more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings but it is to be understood that changes or variations and modifications may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the claims hereunto appended.

l/Vhile the panel 2O is preferred to be diaphanous it is within the contemplation of the invention to form the panel of opaque material such as metal or other weather resisting material. By having'the panel 20 diaphanous light is reflected therethrough for a bett-er perspective of the printed or painted matter on the outer face thereof, and at the same time lends a novel and attractive ap- S5 pearance at night when light is refiected therethrough from the rear of the sign.
ln case an opaque panel is used light may be reflected from the forward face of the sign. Adjacent the right angled shoulder 90 2l, the upper and lower rails 16, 17, are formed with a channel 24 merging with the lower end of the shoulder 21 to provide a supporting and anchoring means for the slats indicated generally at Q8. The channels 24- are formed inwardly from the inner edges of the upper and lower rails and intermediate the inner and outer faces 22, 23 thereof.

The channel 24 for supporting the slats merges into the right angled shoulder26 on the side rails 18, 19 and the one side rail 18 is formed at the upper and lower endsthereof with an inset poclr-et one ofwhichisindicated at 2'? for anchoring the ends of the slats 28 as will be clearly understood by reference to Figure 4 of the drawings.
There are two of these pockets 27 on the one side rail 18 at the upper and lower ends thereof at the left hand corners of the frame for receiving the flanges and extensions on the ends of the left hand slat 2 8 to be presently described.
rlhe slats 28 are formed vof strap metal having elongated intermediate portions 29 having right angled flanges 30, 31 bent inwardly from the same side of the intermediate portion 29 and at theinner end of the flanges they merge with right angled eXtensions 32, 33 projectingV inwardly toward each other.
The flanges together with the extensions on the ends thereof provide combined spacing and anchoring meansfor the slats 28 which are adapted to be seated in thechannels 24 at the upper and lower rails 16, 17. These slats are disposed in the channels 24 in an edgewise manner having one edge thereof in abutting relation to thev panel 20 and the slats are flexible in a sidewiseplane but substantially rigid in an endwise plane so as to resist movement of the panels 20 outwardly, but at the same time to allow flexing for-the insertion thereof in the channel 24.
The slats 28 are placed in the channel 24 with the outer faces of the extension 32, 33 in abutment with adjacent intermediate portions 29 as will be clearly understood by reference to Figure 7 of the drawing andthe distance between adjacent intermediate portions 2) ofthe slat is not lessthan twice the width thereof for the purpose of displaying a greater area. thereof on approach or withdrawal therefrom.
rllhe pockets 27 provide a space for allowing a flange 30 and extension 32 and its complementary flange on the upper end of the left hand slat to be seated therein so that the intermediate portion 29 will be substantially flush with the inner face of the side shoulder rlhe right hand slat having the extensions and flanges disposed towardthe left, has its intermediate portion 29 seated in the side shoulder 26 of the side rail 19.
ln the modified form of the invention -as disclosed Figures 8, V9 and 10, the upper rail 1 6 is provided with longitudinal :spaced slots34 extending entirely through the'rail intermediate the inner and outer faces 22,
23 of the rail, the slots being in alinement with the channel 24 which channel is of the same configuration and extends entirely around the inner edges of the rail.
The slats indicated generally at 36 differ from the slats 28 inasmuch as the body portion is flat and extends in the same plane throughout its entire length. The slats 36 are disposed edgewise in the channel 24 having the inneredgein` abutment with the panel 2O which is seated in the right angled shoulder 21.
In the modified form of the invention the shoulder 21 is ofthe same configuration and extends around the inner edges of the rail in the same location as shoulder 21 on the preferred form of the invention. The slats 36 of the modified formare supported in the lower end of the slots 35 at their upper ends which provides an anchor for them and it is pointed out that the slats 36 are demountable from the frame by sliding `the same outwardly through the slots 35 in the upper rail.
The inner face of the panel 20 may be provided with display indicia of any desired size and indicated at 37. The indicia may be painted7 stamped or placed thereon by decalcomania transfer. To provide the display indicia so as to beviewed at an angle of approach orwithdrawal, the correspondingrfaces of the slats are disposed in a cornmon plane and the indicia may be painted Orotherwise placed on the faces as-indicated at `58 in Figure 11 of the drawings.
To place the indicia on the other face of the slats, theyA are reversedand the same operation is repeated whereby the inner and outer faces of the slats are provided with indicia which when disposed edgewise will present one perspective when viewed from the left as illustrated in Figure 1 and may present a different perspective when viewed from the=right as illustrated in Figure 2.
It will be readily appreciated by referring to Figures l, 2 and 5 that variousand different characters may be displayed on the same side and present three different perspectives, namely one from .approaching the sign at an angle, another directly infront of the sign, and another at an angle when withdrawing frointhe sign in the opposite direction of approach.
In the application of the sign to a commercial use, the invention has as one of its novel features a very simple and efficient method of assembly. Referring particularly to the preferred form of the invention shown in Figures 3, 4, 5, 6 and -7 the rails of'theframe are secured in permanent relation to each other. The panel may be inserted in the shoulder 21 and the channel 25 by insertingr one sidein the upper end of the channel 21 as will be clearly understood by referring to Figure 7 of the dra-wingV whereby the panel may be slipped in the channel 25 and pushed Hush with the shoulder 21 whereby the panel is coextensive with the opening of the frame.
The bottom flange 30 and extension 32 are next inserted in the channel 211 in the bottom rail and the intermediate portion 29 may be flexed sidewise so as to permitthe insertion of the flange 3l and the extension 33 within the channel 24 on the upper rail. When the insertion is complete, the slats assume a straight position having the inner edges thereof abutting the panel 20 whereby said panel is held in position and the slatis anchored and spaced in the channel 24 by the combined effect of flange 30 and combined flanges 30, 3l and extensions 32, 33.
In the application of the modified form of the invention the slats 36 being in the ai' e plane throughout their length are merely slid down the slots 35 until their bottoms seat in the shoulder 24 whereby the edges abut against the panel 2O and hold the panel in its place.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:

In a device of the character described, comprising an open frame of polygonal configuration formed of upper, lower and side rails secured together in fixed relation, a panel coextensive with the opening of the frame and detachably seated interiorly of the inner edges of the rails intermediate the inner and outer faces thereof, spaced flat slats detachably mounted edgewise in the frame at right angles to the panel and extending from the upper to the lower rails, said slats seated interiorly of the inner edges of the upper and lower rails intermediate the inner and outer faces thereof, printed matter on the other face of said panel and on the opposite sides of the slats so as to present three different perspectives at an angle of approach, the angle of withdrawal and on a perpendicular line with said frame.

3. In a device of the character described,
comprising an open frame of polygonal configuration formed of upper, lower and side rails secured together in fixed relation, a panel coextensive with the opening of the rame and detachably seated interiorly of the inner edges of the rails intermediate the inner and outer faces thereof, spaced flat slats detachably mounted edgewiseI in the frame at right angles to the panel and extending from the upper to the lower rails, said slats seated interiorly of the inner edges of the upper and lower rails intermediate the inner and outer faces thereof, printed matter on the other face of said panel and on the opopposite sides of the slats so as to present three different perspectives at an angle of approach, the angle of withdrawal and on a perpendicular line with said frame, said slats being flexible in a sidewise plane but substantially rigid in an endwise plane, and said slats spaced from each other not less than twice the width of each slat.

In a device of the character described, comprising an open frame of polygonal configuration formed of upper, lower and side rails secured together in fixed relation, a panel coextensive with the opening of the frame and detachably seated interiorly of the inner edges 0f the rails intermediate the inner and outer faces thereof, spaced flat slats detachably mounted edgewise in the frame at right angles to the panel and extending from the upper to the lower rails, said slats seated interiorly of the inner edges of the upper and lower rails intermediate the inner and outer faces thereof, printed matter on the other face of said panel and on the opposite sides of the slats so as to present three different perspectives at an angle of approach, the angle of withdrawal and on a perpendicular line with said frame, said slats being flexible in a sidewise plane but substantially rigid in an endwise plane, and said slats spaced from each other not less than twice the width of each Slat, said slats further formed with combined anchoring and spacing members at their opposite ends thereofA which are adapted to be countersunk in the upper and lower rails.
