WATER COOLER Filed Aug. 12, 1927 3: JAWIfVQNTO /R .4 r I I 2D 6/ BEE Patented Dec. 24, 1929 UNITED STATES PATENT oer-E Jon 11. Gimme, o1- nous'ron, 'rnxas warns. COOLER Application filed August 12, 1927. Serial No. 212,689.
This invention relates to new and useful imgrovements in a water cooler.
ne object of the invention is to provide a water cooler of the character described 5 specially designed to be located in a refrig- A further feature of the invention resides in the provision of an apparatus of the character dcscribed'which is of-very simple construction, may be cheaply and easig made andinstalled and which is very e cient for the purpose intended.
With the above and other objects in view 2 the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, opera tion and arrangement of parts, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 shows a front elevation of the conventional type of refrigerator, with the cooler installed.
Figure 2 shows a side elevation thereof,
- 3s partly in section showing the ice box with the cooler installed therein.
Figure 3 shows a plan view of the ice receptacle.
Figure 4 shows a front elevation thereof, 40 and Figure 5 showsa side view thereof partly in section;
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, wherein like numerals of reference designate similar partsin each of the figures, the numeral 1 designates a refrigerator having the ice receiving chamber 2 therein. Located within this chamber there.
is an icelreceptacle designated generally by the numeral 3. This receptacle is of the 'through which water may be drained as needed from the chamber 5-. The supply of.
in an inverted position so that the water will readily drain by gravity into the chamform to fit closely within the chamber 2 and is open above and in front so that a block of ice, as 4 may be readily placed therein. The
bottom, as well as the rear and side walls of the ice receptacle are double, and formed of-suitable sheet metal with the water circulating chamber 5 between them. The top of the refrigerator has a funnel shaped seat 6 with the down pipe 7 leading therefrom and entering the chamber 5"and leading out from the bottom chamber 5 there is,
, an: outlet pipe 8 which extends through the -a l]acent wall of the refrigerator and has a conventional faucet 9 attached thereto water is maintained in a suitable bottleshaped container as 1O whose neck is formed to fit snugly in the seat 6 with the container ber 5. This water surrounds the block'of ice on four sides and is kept at a very cool temperature, its temperature being slightly lower than the temperature of the ice 7 itself. This surrounding water will form additional means for protecting the ice from the outside temperature and will therefore retard the melting of the ice.
- While I have shown what I now consider the preferred form of the cooler it is apparent that variations in the mechanical construction thereof may be made and equivalentssubstituted for the parts shown without departing from the principle of the invention and it is contemplated that such changes and adaptations may be made within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A. device of the character described ineluding. an ice receptacle, open above and in front and having double rear, side and bottom walls forming a continuous water chamber between said walls, the inside walls of the receptacle being smooth to permit close, continuous contact thereof with a block of ice, in said receptacle, a water reservoir above said receptacle and connected into the receptacle and a valve controlled outlet leading from said water chamber.
. 2. The combination with the ice receiving chamber of a refrigerator, of an ice receptacle formed to fit closely within said chambet and being open above and in front and forwardly flared, to permit a block of ice to be inserted into said receptacle, the bottom 7 rear and side walls of the ice receptacle being doubled and spaced apart to provide a single continuous -chamber to permlt the circulation of water beneath on each side of and in the rear of said ice said circulating water forming means for protecting the ice from the outside temperature, a water reservoir above said receptacle and connected into the water chamber and a valve controlled outlet leading from said water chamber.
In testimony whereof I have signed. my
name to this specification. v
I JOHN N. GENNIS.
