This invention relates to a filler pipe for gasoline tanks, the primary object of the invention being to provide a novel form of filler pipe and closure to insure against the 5 gasoline in the tank splashing from the tank,
thereby reducing waste to the minimum.
Another object of the invention is to provide a filler pipe having a hinged closure at each end thereof, means being provided for 10 transmitting movement of the outer closure to the inner closure when the outer closure is moved to its closed position, to the end that the closure at the inner end of the pipe will be closed when the outer closure is closed.
further object of the invention is to provide a spring pressed outer closure which will automatically move to its closed position when the nozzle of a hlling hose, positioned in the pipe, is removed therefrom. i 1TWith the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the filler pipe is indicated by the reference char- 40 acter 5 and is provided with a groove 6 formed in the upper end thereof which groove accommodates the rib 'l' formed on the undersurface of the cover 8.
This cover is provided with rearwardly extended arms 9 formed with openings to receive the pin 10, which pin also passes through openings formed adjacent to the upper ends of the arms 11 that extend from the filler pipe.

around the pin 10 and has its ends 13 engaging the arms 11 as clearly shown by Figure 2, the intermediate portion of the coiled springbeing formed into a linger 1&1 resting against the cover 8 to normally urge the cover to its closed position.
At the lower 'end of the pipe 5 is a closure 15 which is pivotally supported at 16, and is designed to close the inner end of the pipe 5 when the closure 8 is moved to its closed position, but which is so constructed that it will automatically open under its own weight, when the closure 8 is moved to its open position.
Extending rearwardly from the closure 15, is an arm 17 which is formed with an opening to accommodate one end of the rod 18, the opposite end of the rod extending through an opening or bore formed through the body portion of the hinge, the upper end of the rod terminating at a point adjacent to the rib 7 extending from the inner surface of the closure 8, to the end that when the closure 8 moved downwardly, the rib 'l' will contact with the rod 18 swinging the closure 15 to its closed position.

F rom the foregoing it will be obvious that when the nozzle of a filling hose is removed from the filling pipe, the closure 8 will autow inatically return to its closed position, moving the closure 15 to its closed position to pre- ,Si vent the gasoline from splashing while the vehicle in which the tank is positioned, is in operation.

A filler pipe for gasoline tanks, including. a body portion to be fitted in the filling opening of a tank, a pivoted closure eccentrically mounted at one end of the body portion and adapted to normally swing by gravity to its open position, a pivoted closure at the opposite end of the body portion, said body portion having` a bore, a rod connected with the first mentioned pivoted closure and extending through the bore, the free end of the rod extending to a point above the upper end of. 1w
