This invention relates to containers especially adapted for use in the sale of honey, an object being to provide a container which will closely simulate the hive of a bee, and Which may be made in sizes to be packed compactly for shipment, the dimensions of the containers with respect to the dimensions of the cartons in which they are packed, providing for different combinations of sizes in a single carton.

Another and important object of the in vention is the provision of a container which, after it has served for the sale of its original contents, may be useful to the purchaser for other purposes and thus aid in the sale of the original goods and if desired provide an advertising medium.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to

be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.

Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view taken substantially on the line 22 of Figure 1 and illustrating the manner of locking the false cover in position.

Figure 6 is a fragmentary sectional view showing the manner of attaching the handle or bail to the container.

Figure 7 is an enlarged elevation of the combined cover securing means and bail retainer.

Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a container which is especially designed for containing honey, and it is the purpose of the invention to make these containers in different sizes so as to hold different amounts of honey. the dimensions of the containers be such that various different combinations of sizes may be packed within a carton.

The container is provided with a sealed top or cover 11 which is provided with a dis charge spout 12 normally covered with a cap 13.

One of the important objects of the invention is to render the container useful after its contents have been removed and for this purpose there is provided a false cover 14 having a flange 15 which extends downwardly over the upper edges of the container. This cover is provided with a raised portion 16 which provides a compartment 17 into which the discharge spout 12 extends. This compartment also houses a bail 18 having inturned ends 19.

The bail is normally housed Within the compartment and after the goods are sold, is removed and attached to the container. For this purpose, the container is provided at each end with an offset strap 20 having an opening 21 therein. These openings are adapted to receive inturned extremities 19 of the bail as will be readily understood.

In order to removably retain the false cover 14 in place the strap 20 is provided with an extension or tongue 22 whose upper free end is bent inward so as to extend within an opening 23 provided at each end of the false cover 14. When it is desired to remove the cover 14, the extension or tongue 22 is bent outward to the position shown in Figure 6 of the drawings. The outer extremity of the tongue 22 is notched as shown at 24 and this notch is adapted to receive the bail 18 so as to hold the latter in an upright position as shown in Figure 6. When the original contents of the container have been removed, the top 11 may be cut on the line indicated at a in Figure 5 of the drawings so as to provide an open top container which may be closed when desired by the false cover 14.

The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims. 100
