tents of the box while such contents are protected by the lid.
Other objects will appear from the following description, reference being made to the drawing in which Fig. l is a perspective view of the box embodying my present invention. i
Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view of the lid on the line 2 2 of Fig. l, the cooperating receptacle portion of the box being shown by broken lines.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the wall of the lid on the line 3-3 of Fig. l.
Fig. 4 is a plan view showing the blank for the lid frame before the blank is folded.
My improved box lid is designed and adapted for cooperation with the receptacle portion of the box comprising a bottom 1 and a side wall 2. This receptacle receives and holds the contents of the box upon which my improved box lid is removably placed to aifordinspection of the contents without removing the lid.
The lid comprises a frame preferably made of a single strip of pasteboard folded to provide a Wall of double thickness and of suflicient size to enclose the wall 2 of the receptacle portion of the box. This strip of pasteboard is folded longitudinally to provide an innerv ply 3 and an outer ply 4 integrally united along the fold line at their lower edges. The vertical width of the wall thus formed may be, and`preferably is, approximately the same as the vertical width of the wall 2. The upper marginal edge of the ply 4 is folded inwardly across the upper edge of the ply 3 to provide an inwardly extended frame 5. Of course, the part 5 will be notched or mitered at the corners to permit this folding. The plies 3 and 4 are secured together by tan adhesive substance vor other fastening means. The ends fofthe istrip of pasteboard forming the wall of the lid vare connected by iniserting an extensionv'o'fone ofthe plies (the ply 3, as shown) between :the Vplies 3 and4 of the ad) acentlend .of the wallandisecuringthe par-ts vin this vposition lby ana-adhesive substance-or other fastening means.
After the frameo'f the lid-has been .constructed -in this manner a 4transparent vpane or panel 7 lis placeduponthe Ipart -of'the box lid -frameand secured-thereto'by glue or'other fastening means. The Yedge of this Vpane or l panel 7 -preferably'extends approximately to the plane -o'f the outer side lof the ply 4andv across the plane ofthe upper edge yof the ply 3 to-obtainimaximum strength. ,A frame 8 is' secured upon ithe marginal edge of the pane` or panel Y7 preferably lin a 'relationship iin which the inner 'edge ofthe' 'frameS is inapproximate alinement with the inner edge of the `part v5. This frame 8 extends outwardly beyond the 'outer .edge of the pane `or panel Y and beyond the outer surface .of the jply 4 to approximate alincment with/the edges of` the bottom lofthe receptacle portion of the box (Fig.y Glueor other fastening means may be'used to attach the frame'8'in position. The pane or panel'7 may be transparent paper or other material suitable Yfor 'this purpose;v f i l u .K
T am ,aware that the construction andar?" rangementfofthe parts maybe varied within vequivalent :limits without departure fromv thenature and principle of theinvention. I do not restrict myself `unessent'ially :nor otherwise than as set 'forth in the vappended claims.A
