EXEENsION DEVICE Appiieatin filed December 10, 192e'. sei-iai No. 324,883;
This invention relates to an extension device fora Wrist strapand has for its object to provide a construction by which the eX- tension is obtained -by lbodily moving the parts away from each o ther in the direction of the longitudinal extent of thestrap rather.

.In extension devicesof the type used for enlarging the encircling size of a Wrist band or the like, itis found desirable to provide a construction which is extremely thin. and neat on the arm of the wearer and one ,which maypermit of an enlarging movement vby a separation of its parts bodily Vin the direction of longitudinal extent of ythe strap rather than an unfolding of hingedly connected sections as is common in the art, and .in `order to' provide a construction to obtain these desirable results, l have formed. a housing withA 1 lazy tongs `mounted inthe housing which mayextendftherefrom to enlargethesize of the Wriststrap forremovalover the hand of the wearer and have provided a suitable look. for,pireventi'ng such extension lwhen the de?,

The bottom Wall 13 isa lengthlessthan the channel body 10 to leave the'to'p and sideV4 100 i 1,739,67e l walls protruding beyond the bottom at end 18. In this portion of the side walls, openings 19 are provided to pivotally receive the gripper or clamp 2O having a lever arm 2l notched as at- 22 to receive the iingers 17 and lie flush against the bottom wall 13 between the portions of the side walls 12 which extend therebeyond whereby the bottom surface presented by all parts of the device are in the same plane and the kclamp is concealed.
The cam acting strap engaging portion 23 of this pivotally mounted clamp is adapted to swing and force the strap against the top wall 11 to securely attach it to the housing member. In the illustration shown the strap consists of a plurality of block links 24 hingedly connected together as illustrated in Figure 8. The cam acting portion 23 is designed to extend into .one ofthe spaces between the links 24150 firmly hold the end of the strap to the extension device. An adjustment as to size .can be readily accomplished in this manner by cutting off the strap to the desired length before clamping it to the housing section.
In the housing space 15 one end of a series of jointed bars 27 and 28 pivoted together at their ends and points of crossing in a lazy tong arrangement is secured by suitable ,means 26 such as a rivet or the like, as illustrated in Figures2 and 3. At the other end of this lazy tongs, the member 29 of the eX- tension device is secured, which in turn is secured to'the endlink of an end of the strap.
i- )lVhen it is desired that the device be extended, the member 29 is moved away from the housing member and an extension of the lazy tongs takes place, as illustrated in Figure 2, las whereas when the device is moved to contracted position, the lazy tongs are folded into the position illustrated in Figure .3 withthe end member 29 positioned in the notches 30 formed inthe side walls 12 of the housing member.
This end member V29 is locked in contracted Jposition in lthe notches 30 by means of a yoke 31 having side arms 32 pivoted as at 38 to the side walls 1 2 of the housing member. vThe arms are joined together to support each other and move in unison as at 34 and are notched as at r35 with an undercut portion 3G so, as to preventaccidental raising of the yoke to release the member 29 it being understood that the longitudinal strain on the strap 'l pulls the member 29 into these undercut pormade `exceedingly thin to take up the minimum amount of space on the arm of the wearer and to afford a neat appearance when VOI'II.
The foregoing description is directed solely towards the construction illustrated, but
I desire it to be understood that I reserve the s privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being` defined and limited only by the terms of the appended vclaims. n I claim :--l
