IMPROVEMENT IN SNOW-SHOVELS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 173,964, dated February 92, 1876; application filed January 22, 1876.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation referring to the annexed drawing, in Which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a side view, part in section, of the same.
A represents the blade of my shovel, made of wood, bentas shown, and provided at its front edge with a metal tip or shoe, B, extending the entire width of the shovel, and covering both the upper and lower sides. Along the back edge of the blade is a Wooden stay,
0, riveted or otherwise permanently secured,
thereto. D is the handle, made of wood, bent as shown, and passed through the blade immediately below the stay 0, and its front end fastened on top of the blade by means ot'a bolt,
a, passing through the blade and handle. This bolt is to have a T shaped head, and a T-shaped washer to be placed on its other end, thereby preventing the splitting of either blade or handle. The handle is further held by means ot'a staple, 11, passing around the same and through the stay and blade, as shown.
By this construction a convenient, durable, and useful tool is obtained.
Having thus. fully described my invention, what 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the bent wooden blade A, metal shoe B, wooden stay 0, bent wooden handle D, bolt a, and staple I), all substantially as and forthe purposes herein set forth. In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 21st day of December, 1875.
