Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IGNA'JJZ DEUTSCH AND SAMUEL N EUMAN, OF PHIIJADELPHIA PA.
- IMPROVEMENT IN ClGAR-CUTTERS.
Specifioatsion forming part; of Letters Patent N0. 173,915, datied February 22, 1876 applieation filed January 8,1876.
T0 all whom it mag; concern Be it; known that we, IGNATZ DEUTSCH and SAMUEL NEUMAN, both of the eity and county of Philadelphia and State 0f Pennsy-lvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement: in Oigar-(Jutte'rs and we do therefore deelare 'the following t:o be a clear and exa cts descripof I;he device embodying 0u1 -inventsion. Fig.
2 is an end view thereof.
' Sirnilar lettzers 0f reference indicat-e eorresponding parts in the several figures.
Our invention relates t0 a eutter f0r tl1e mouth-end 0f a cigar; and it; eonsists 0f aperforated platte, base-plate, cutter, and springarm, whereby t;he satter will be pressed against: the perforated plate and cut; close and clean, and a simple and inexpensive implement; is produeed.
Referring to the drawings, A represents an upright; platze, and B t;l1e base thereof. In the platze A obere is a series 0f perforations f0r t;he introduction 0f the endsof eigars of various sizes. In the rear of the plate A there is arranged a blade 0r eu tter O, which is formed in one piece, wit;h a spring-arm, D,
wl1ose end is secured 110 tshe Base B or plate A. Intermediate 0t' the arm D and cutzter C is abend or twist, E, whose tendency is t30 press t;he blade 0 against; Ehe platze A, and be forward end of the cutter movs witzhin a guide, F, se-
cured 130 the plate A, so that; tshe cuttzer will be prevented from outsward movement when power is applied thereto. The end of the cigar will be placed in one of ehe openings a a, and a sharp blow 01 pressure impar'ted t10 the head ot the satter O, whereby the Gatter will descend and the projecting end of the cigar will tue cut off, and. it: falls ab the rear of t:he plate A. The band is then removed from the head 0f the cut3t;er' and t:he latztser will rise to it;s normal position, due t;0 tshe actsion 0f the spring-arm D.
lt: will be seen that there is 110 pivot or hinge proper for the cuttzer, and the cutaterhas a free or yielding motion its entsire lengtzh, whereby breakage or loosening thereof eannot occur.
It; will also be seen t:l1at t;he bend or twist; E holds tl1e edge of the cutstzer against: the platze A, whereb y tahe cnt will be clean, and t:he cigar pr'esents 110 broken orjagged edges.
Ir will also be seen that: t;he l0wer end 0f the spring-armD is attached to filme plate A 0r base B, wherebysaid a1n1 will be properly suppoitsed, and theeutter G will be supported and elevated b y t;he spring-arm wibhout: hinges or intermediate jointss, which otherwise would be subjectsed t0 strain and wear.
The whole device is simple and inexpensive in its nature, the partss are star0ng, and not liable to geb out of Order.
Having tzhus described our invention, what we elaim as new, and desire t0 secure by Letters Patent, is
The eigar-cutter, consisting 0f the perforatedplat;e A, base B, cutster O, and supportin g spring-arm D, formed integral witzh said autter, all constsructed, arranged, and operating as set; fortah and for t;he purpose deseribed.
