The bumping machine is operated by a fluid-actuated motor M as an air motor to which air is supplied by a pipe 4 from a pressure supply pipe 5 through a controlling valve 6. Said valve opens and closes a valveseated port 7 for circulation through a casing 8 with which pipes {l and 5 are connected at each side of the port 7. The valve is normally pressed towards the valve seat for closin g by a spring 9 seated in a suitable socket or casing;' 10 and has a projecting stem 11 eX- ten ding; tl'irough the top of easing 8.
A trigger arm 12 is secured to pivoting pin 13 mounted in bracket l t and provided with a re-setting handle 15. The trigger arm 12 is provided at its other end with a shoulder 16 for engagement by the upper end of a trigger l7 pivoted at 18 on bracket 14 and havin a 1928.. Serial No. 259,894.

Plunger 21 is gradually advanced in cylinder casing 23 against retracting spring 2% by impulse of fluid in regulated amounts through ports 25, 26, as flow is admitted by the opening and closing of valve 27. Plaid valve is normally seated by spning 28 and opened by impulses of fluid as oil. lirom a reservoir 29 through valve-controlled port 30 conn'nunicating with port and by port 1 with the plunger cavity 32 of plunger casing 38.

The latter is provided with an aperture 52 and indicating point for observation and indication of range indicating numerals on the dial, as shown in 6. By such means the location of the cam controls the length of stroke of plunger 35, which is retracted after opening of the circuit at each drop of the table by spring 53.

29 after each advance movement of plunger 21 I provide a valve 54 controlling circulation through port and the valve-seated port leadingto return conduit 56, discharging into the reservoir, as shown in Fig. 1. Valve 54 is normally seated by a spring 57 and is provided with an extended stem 58 mounted in an outer bearing 59 of the casing 33, with the end of the stem in range of trigger arm 17.
When plunger 21 advances and stem 20 disengages the trigger so as to allow valve 6 to seat and cut off the circulation, the stem 58 will be depressed backwardly by arm 17 under pressure of cam at the end of the plunger stroke, Fig. 4, releasing the oil behind the plunger and allowing spring 24 to force it back to the original position.
The construction and operation of the apparatus will be readily understood from the foregoing description. Dependent upon the position of cam 46, the stroke of plunger 35 will be longer or shorter each time the circuit is closed to the magnet 38 by movement of the table 3. The cam being set to the desired position,'to regulate the stroke of the armature and plunger 35, the amount of liquid pumped through valve 27 into the casing 23, and withdrawn from tank 29 through port 30, at each plunger operation, definitely determines the number of strokes necessary to force plunger 21 outwardly suflieiently far to disengage the trigger 12.
After the stem 20 has forced arm 19 sufiiciently far to release the trigger as in Fig. 4, the valve 6'Wlll be almost closed by its spring 9, still admitting alimited air supply through ipe 4 to the motor, slowing down-the op- Thereafter additional oil will be pumped into casing 23, the plunger then moving to its outward limit and opening valve 54 for release as in Fig. 5. At such time trigger 12 is thrown upwardly sufficiently far to bring its cam extension 60 fullyagainst the arm 17 and thrusting rod 58 inwardly to fully unseat valve 54, as in Fig. 5.
Partial or complete action of cam abutment 60 will eflfect such unseating, whereby to empty thecas'ing '23 upon reverse movement of plunger'21.
By movement of hand lever 15 the same operation maybe effected or completed, and by varying .theshape of the lever 12 or the length of the valve pin 11, the thrusting ,movement of the cam may be Varied or adjusted to the desired opening movement of j the valve.
The hand lever may also beutilized independently ofthe plunger movement by manual operation of thetrigger, to empty thecasing and effect resumption of the parts to normalposition. i The construction, design, arrangement and v proportions of the mechanism may be variously changed or modified as to location ofthe valve, circulatingports, or in other details by the skilled mechanic, but all such changes are to be understood as within the scope of the following claims.
lVhat I claim is 1. Means for regulating movements of the active element of a machine having a fluidactuated motor consisting of a motor controlling valve, means for closing the valve, means holding the valve open, a fluid-actuated device for releasing the valve, and means controlled by the active element of the machine effecting movement of the fluid-actuated device.
2. Means for regulating movements of the active element of a machine having a fluidactuated motor consisting of a valve controlling flow of fluid to the motor, a spring for closing the valve, an opening lever, a holding trigger therefor, a fluid-actuated device for releasing the trigger, means for supplying fluid pressure to said device, and means controlled by the active element of the machine for imparting movement to said means.
3. Means for regulating movements of the active element of a machine having a fluidactuated motor consisting of a valve controlling flow of fluid to the motor, a spring for closing the valve, an opening lever, a holding trigger therefor, a fluid-actuated device for releasing the trigger, means for supplying fluid pressure to said device, means controlled by the active element of the machine for imparting movement to said means, and means operative upon closing of the valve effecting release of fluid pressure from the trigger releasing device.
4. Means for regulating movements of the active element of a machine having a fluidactuated motor consisting of a valve controlling fiow of fluid to the motor, a spring for closing the valve, an opening lever, a holding trigger therefor, a fluid-actuated device for releasing the trigger, means for supplying fluid pressure to said device, means controlled by the active element of the machine for imparting movement to said means, and a release valve for the fluid-actuated device having a stem projecting in the path of the trigger.
5. In combination with a bumping machine having a vibrating top and a motor therefor, a fluid supply pipe for the motor, a flow controlling valve therefor, means for closing the valve, trigger controlled mechanism holding the valve open, fluid-actuated releasing mechanism therefor, means for pumping fluid to said mechanism, and a motor therefor controlled by the movementof the bumping in achine.
6. In combination with a bumping machine having a vibrating top and a motor therefor, a fluid supply pipe for the motor, :1 flow controlling valve therefor, means for closing the valve, trigger controlled mechanism holding the valve open, fluid-actuated releasing mechanism therefor, means for pumping fluid to said mechanism, a motor therefor controlled by the movement of the bumping machine, and a valve for releasing pressure from the fluid-actuated releasing mechanism operable by the trigger mechanism.

In combination with a bumping machine having a vibrating top and a motor therefor, fluid supply pipe for the motor, a flow controlling valve therefor, means for closing the valve, trigger controlled mechanism holding the valve open, fluid-actuated releasing mechanism therefor, means for pumping fluid to said mechanism, a magnet and armature operatively connected with the pumping means, and a controlling circuit therefor having contact mechanism opened and closed at each movement of the bumping machine.
8. In combination with. a spring seated controlling valve for fluid supply to the motor of a bumping machine, a valve opening lever having a trigger engaging abutment, a trigger therefor, a plunger casing having a spring retracted plunger and a trigger engaging stem, a releasing valve therefor operable by the trigger, and means for cumulatively pumping fluid to said casing.
9. In combination with a spring seated controlling valve for fluid supply to the motor of a bumping machine, a valve opening lever having a trigger engaging abutment, a triggcr therefor, a plunger casing having a spr ng retracted plunger and a trigger engaging stem, a releasing valve therefor operable by the trigger, and means for cumulatively pumping fluid to said casing having an actuating motor controlled by means mounted on the bumping machine.
10. In combination with a spring seated controlling valve for fluid supply to the motor of a bumping machine, a valve opening lever having a trigger engaging abutment, a trigger therefor, a plunger casing having a spring retracted plunger and a trigger engaging stem, a releasing valve therefor operable by the trigger, a reciprocable plunger device for cumulatively pumping fluid to said casing having an armature, and a magnet therefor provided with a circuit having opening and closing switch mechanism operating in conformity with the movement of the bumping machine.
11. In combination with a valve casing having a spring seated valve controlling circulation of pressure fluid to a reciprocable motor, a valve stem projecting from the casing, a pivoted depressing lever therefor having a trigger abutment, a pivoted trigger therefor, a plunger casing having an inlet port and an exhaust port, a releasing valve controlling flow through the exhaust port having a stem projecting towards the trigger, a spring retracted plunger in the casing having a stem projecting towards the trigger, and means for pumping fluid to the casing.
12. In combination with a valve casing having a spring seated valve controlling circulation of pressure fluid to a reciprocable motor, a valve stem projecting from the easing, .a pivoted depressing lever therefor having a trigger abutment and a trigger actuating earn, a pivoted trigger therefor, a plunger casing having an inlet port and an exhaust port, a releasing valve controlling flow through the exhaust port having a stem projectin g towards the trigger, a spring retracted plunger in the casing having a stem projecting towards the trigger, and means for pumping fluid to the casing.
13. In combination with a plunger casing having a trigger releasing plunger and stem and provided with a fluid exhaust valve, a fluid reservoir having valve controlled supply conduits leading to the casing, a pumping plunger operable to intermittently force fluid theret-hrough to the casing, means for actuating the plunger, and means providing return flow of fluid through the release valve back to the reservoir.
14-. In combination with a valve casing having a spring seated valve controlling circulation of pressure fluid to a reciprocable motor, a valve stem projecting from the easing, a pivoted depressing lever therefor having a trigger abutment, a pivoted trigger therefor, a plunger casing having an inlet port, and an exhaust port, a releasing valve controlling flow through the exhaust port having a stem projecting towards the trigger, a spring retracted plunger in the casing hav ing a stem projecting towards the trigger, means for pumping fluid to the casing, and a hand lever connected with. the depressing lever.
