This invention relates to a fuel burner designed for use on furnaces equipped with air registers Supplied with either forced or natural draft, and has for its object to produce a simple device that will surround the furnace throat and deliver fuel at high velocity from its inner periphery so that it Wlll impinge upon a column of air flowing through the furnace throat.
The invention will be understood by reference to the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 is a transverse vertical section through the burner on the plane of the line 11 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 2 a horizontal section on the plane of the line 22 of Fig. 1.
The burner shown comprises an outer part 1 having a flange 1, and an inner part 2 having a flange 2. The latter fitswithin the flange 1' and the part 2 is adjustable along the carried by lugs 4 on the part 2 and'engagmg threaded openings in corresponding lugs on the part 1.
When the parts are assembled there is pro vided an enclosed chamber 5 around the central core formed by the wall of member 2. A projection 6 on one side of the part 1 provides a fuel inlet to chamber 5.
The inner Wall of part 2' is frusto-conical and extends toward the inclined wall 7 of the outer part 1. wall is bevelled at 8 to correspond with the inclined wall 7 and formstherewith an annular slot 9 through which the fuel is discharged into a combustion chamber. By means of the bolts 3 the part 2 of the burner maybe adjustedto vary the width of the slot. The outer wall of member 1 is a scroll or curve of gradually decreasing radius so that said wall gradually approaches the wall of part 2. The combination of the two parts, 1 and 2, forms partically an enclosed chamber which is circular on the inside and of decreasing radius of curvature from the inlet on the outside, and which is provided with a tangential inlet 6 and an annular outlet 9.
The above described burner is adapted to burn either gas or pulverized coal. If the latter, the coal will be delivered to the burner to under suitable pressure in suspension in the flange of part 1 by means of screw bolts 3 The outer end of the inner carrier air. Due to the tangential inlet and the varying volume form of chamber 5, the fuel will be discharged through slot 9 in a thin sheet in the form of a cone.
Suitable means will be provided for supporting the burner with relation to the combustion chamber of a furnace, and for admitting air for combustion. through the larger end of the burner, to the fuel discharged through the slot 9.
I claim:
l. A fuel burner comprising a chamber in the form of an involute scroll and provided with an annular delivery slot and means for adjusting the width of the slot.
2. A fuel burner comprising a chamber in the form of an involute provided with a slot in the annular wall of the chamber on side nearest the center, and means to vary the width of the slot.
3. A fuel burner comprising a chamber in the form of an involute surrounding an air passage and having a slot in the inner wall of the chamber communicating with said air passage, said slot being formed at an angle to the axis of said passage, and means to vary the width of said slot.
