Ann JOHN w. QUALLS, or are s'ronn ear, VIRGINIA CHUBN Application filed. September 7,1927. Serial No. 218,008.
This invention relates to a churn, the general object of the invention being to provide means whereby the-churn can be operated from a washing machine of the Maytag type by providing the bottom of the churn with means whereby it can be attached to the oscillatory member of the washing machine so that the churn will be oscillated by the machine and thus the cream in the churn will be turned to butter.
lhis invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described. illustrated in the accompanying drawings and peeifically pointed out in the appended claims.
in describing our invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of a washing machine with the lid in open position, and showing the churn in position.
Figure 2 is an elevation of Figure 1, with parts out the washing machine in section.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the churn with the top removed.
Figure 4-. is a churn.
Figure 5 is a vertical sectional View thereof.
In these drawings, the numeral 1 indicates the body of the churn which is provided with the removable top 2 having the handle 3 thereon and handles 4: are attached to the sides of the body so that the churn can be bottom plan view of the easily carried from place to place. A circu lar opening 5 is formed in the center of the bottom of the churn and a tubular member 6 is connected with the walls of said opening, said member being arranged within the churn and having its upper end closed, as at 7. [a pair of oppositely arranged plates 8 is fastened to the inner side walls of the body, these plates being arranged at an angle to the horizontal and said plates act as agitators or heaters for the cream. til-shaped clips 9 depend from the bottom of the churn and said clips are adapted to engage the wings 10 on the oscillatory member A of the Maytag type of washing machine, the tub of which is shown at B. extends into the space formed by the tubular member 6 of the churn. The rack bar for operating the member A is shown at 12.
From the foregoing it will be seen that when it is desired to use the churn, the lid B of the washing machine is swung to open position and then the churn is placed in the tub with the U-shaped clips 9 engaging the wings of the oscillator, the stem of the oscillator extending into the space formed by the member 6 of the churn. Then the motor of the washing machine is started up and the movements of the oscillator will be communicated to the churn so that the cream therein will be turned to butter.
It will be seen that we have provided a simple form of churn which can be manufac- The stem 11 of the member A' tured to sell at low cost and one which can be easily and quickly positioned in a washing machine so that it will be actuated thereby and removed from the machine after the butter has been churned.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of our invention will be readily apparent.
We desire it to be understood that we may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall-within the scope of the appended claims.
What we claim is 1. In combination with a washing machine and its oscillator, a churn and means on the churn for engaging parts of the oscillator'so that the churn will be actuated Erom said os cillator.
2. In combination with a washingmachine and its oscillator, a churn and ll-shaped clips on the bottom or? the churntor engaging the wings of the oscillator so that the churn will be actuated from said oscillator.
3. in combination with a washing machine and its oscillator, a churn, til-shaped clips on the bottom of the churn for engaging the wings of the oscillator, a tubular member in the bottom part of the churn having its lower ltltl end open and its upper end closed, said member forming a space for receiving the stem of the oscillator and agitators connected with the inner walls of the churn.
4. The combination with a washing machine gy'rator provided with radial vanes, of a churn body having in its bottom portion a radially disposed clutch notch formed to receive a radial gyrator vane whereby said churn body is actuated. In testimony whereof We afiix our signatures.
