This invention relates t jars used in the preservation of fruits, vegecables, fruit juices and the like.

The object 0f the invention is in the main to improve the closure of the jar, so that it may be hermetically sealed with comparative ease by woman 01 a child, and as easily un" sealed.

A further object is to provide a closure which is ab once a hermetical Saal f0r the broad mouth of a jar and an extended bottle neck 01 nozz1e convenient for the pouring out of a liquid, thus adapting the vessel f01 convenient filling with either fruit 01' fruit juice, and the equally convenient emptying of the same in either case.

The invention is fully disclosed in the desoription and claims following, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in

In the drawing the numeral 5 denotes a fruit-jar, having a body of substantially a standard type. The neok 6, however, instead of being screwthreaded has a terminal annu1ar flange 7, giving the mouth of the a1 a fairly wide and flat annular ring to i0rm a seat f0r a flat gasket 8. In practice it is preferred to forma the head for double closure. It is accordingly provided wit-h a conical body 18 terminating in a cylinchical bottle-mouth 19. An annular shoulcler 20 is notched at-2l for clamp bolts 12 provided with thumb-nuts 13. The bolts are held in position by a wire ring 10", similar to that already described. The bolts engage a top-plate 22 by its pierced lugs 23, and bind closely into the bottle-mouth a non- VQX capping gasket 24. The jar may then be used as a bottle, by manipulating the outer Closure independenoly of that binding the head to the jar. Having thus described my invention, I claim:

l. In a fruit-jar am]. closure, the combination of a ar having an annularly expanded, fiat-toppecl mouth, a wire-ring retaining shoulder formecl on the neck, a pair of dampbolts With thumb-nuts hold by an encircling Wire under said shoulder, a head formed with a marginal, flat annular flange t0 match the mouth of the jar, and a ring-like yoke encircling the head and engaging said flange With pierced 1ugs engaged by the clamp-bolts,

whereby the head. is drawn to a sealing position on aninterposed gasket.

2. In a i"ruit-j a r assembly, the combination of a jar having an expanded, flat-topped mouth, a neck provided with an outstanding, 1

wire-ring retaining shoulder, clarnp-bolts with thumb-nuts held in upstanding osition by the wire ring, a head having a conical body and wire-retaining shoulder on a reduced exk tension of the head, a cap-plate engaged by the last named clamp-bolts, and a, convex gasket clamped in the bottlemouth of the head.
