Application led November This invention relates to siphon bottles and has ttor its object the provision of a simple structure whereby the discharge from the bottle may be controlled. The invention seeks to provide a device for the stated purpose which will positively cut ofi all flow when it is closed and may be quickly and easily manipulated to permit discharge when desired. The invention is illustrated in the accompanying` drawing and will be hereinafter fully set forth.
The drawing is a vertical section of a bottle top embodying the invention.
The bottle, indicated at l, may be of any pr'eilierred size and form provided with an annular shoulder 2 adjacent its mouth. 1n carry' in' out the invention, I engage around the neck of the bottle below said shoulder and abutting the same a split collar which externally threaded to be engaged by a cap il having an outlet spout projecting 'from its upper end and in communication with its interior. Intermediate its ends, this cap 4 is constructed with an internal annular shoulder 6k and between the said shoulder and the mouth of the bottle is a gasket 7 and a diaphragm 8 which will be iirmly clamped to the bottle when the cap is turned home upon the collar 3. Leakage will be thereby avoided. At the center of the diaphragm S, an opening 9 is 'formed I therethrough, encircled by an upstanding annular valve seat 9, and on the upper side oi the diaphragm concentric with said opening is a. spiderror valve cage l() housing :i ball valve 1l. Threaded through the top et the cap is an operating` screw l2 provided with a milled head 13, the lower end of the shank of the screw being concave, as shown at to bear upon the valve 11 and hold it seated upon the valve seat 9 in closing relation to the port or opening 9 when the screw is turned home. To permit discharge Ytrom the bottle, the screw is rotated in the proper direction to ride outwardly through the cap and the pressure of the carbonated liquid within the bottle will then lift the valve from its seat so that the liquid may escape through the valve cage l() and the outlet spout Depending from the diaphragm 8, concentric with the port 9, is a tube l5, preferably of glass, which has its upper end seated in a collar 8 and extends 3, 1925. Serial No. 66,591.
to a point near the bottom of the bottle, and
around the upper end of said `tube is a short about the tube 15 so as to prevent transverse movement ot the latter'.
To lill the bottle, it is inverted in a proper frame or support and the source of supply is connected through a hose or the like with the spout Then, if the screw l2 be turned to release the valve l1, the bottle will be charged through the port 9 in an obvious manner. lt will be very readily seen from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanyingl drawing, that l have provided an exceedingly simple and elicient device whereby a bottle containing a carbonated beverage or any liquid under pressure will be securely sealed when discharge of the liquid is not desired and may be quickly and easily opened when discharge is wanted.
Having thus described the invention, I claim:
A. closure for bottle necks comprising a cap having a head and an annular wall adapted to be removably secured about the bottle neck, an annular internal abutment shoulder being formed in the cap and adapted to be disposed over the bottle neck, au outlet spout above said shoulder, a rigid diaphragm in said cap to be gripped between said shoulder and the bottle neck, said diaphragm being termed with a port, an annular valve seat extending upwardly about the port, a collar depending 4from said diaphragn'i about the port and adapted -to receive the upper end of an outlet tube,
a thinible depending from said diaphragm about said collar and at its lower end provided with an inwardly projecting flange to fit snugly about the outlet tube in spaced relation to said collar and prevent trans verse movement of the tube, a valve to seat upon said valve seat, and externally operated means to releasably retain said valve 'upon its seat in closine` relation to said port.
1n testimony whereof l afiix my signature.
