Description
Nov. 26, W29. F. E. MlLLER 3,737,430
HEARING DEVICE FOR THE DEAF Filed Aug. 22. 1,927
INVENTOR Patented Nov 26, 1929 PATENT OFFICE 'FRANK E, MILLER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
HEARING DEVICE FOR THE DEAF Application filed August 22, 1927. Serial No. 214,513.
It is an object' of my invention to provide a hearing device for the deaf which will fit snugly into the ear and at the same time have an outward protruding portion which will completely cover the outer ear.
It is also my purpose to construct a device of this kind which will be simple and easy to manufacture and be rigid and solid in construction.
My device will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawing. In the drawing, Fig. 1 is a sectional elevation of my device. E is a hollow tube portion constructed of vulcanite or other suitable material which may be inserted directly into the ear and which will form a support so that the remainder of the device itself will be sustained in the'hearing position. This portion E is directly connected to the case C enclosing 2 the diaphragm D and the magnets M and M connected with battery leads L and L. The
diaphragm D is connected throu h the connecting link P which may be acfjustable to the outer diaphragm D by means of a suitsaid electromagnet, an armature arm coop able screw or other fastening device X. The
diaphragm D completely encloses the outer ear so that b use of the diaphragms D and D the repro uced sounds are connected both to the eardrum, if any, through the hollow passage in E, and also through the bones of the side of the face by means of thediaphragm D, so that it will be seen that I obtain the application of the reproduced sound both to the inner and outer ear.
Having thus described my invention, what I'claim and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
1. In a hearing device for the deaf, a hol- I low tube adapted to be inserted in the human ear and thereby supported, a case containing an electromagnet, a diaphragm actuated by said electromagnet, an armature arm cooperatively connected with said diaphragm, an outer larger diaphragm sha ed to encompass the outer ear and actuated y said armature arm, all as and for the purposes described.
2. In a hearing device for the deaf, a hollow tube adapted to be inserted in the human ear and thereby supported, a case containing an electromagnet, a diaphragm actuated by
