This invention relates to fuel feeding systems for motor vehicles and is a companion application of my application Serial No.
31,080 filed even date herewith, the object being to provide a novel form of circuit maker and breaker for energizing and deenergizing the solenoid for operating the diaphragm pump.
Another object of my invention is to provide a construction of circuit maker and breaker wherein a flipper bar is used in con' nection with a pivoted member so as to hold the movable contact firmly into engagement with the fixed contact so as to form a positive contact in order to complete the circuit to energize the solenoid.
Another object of my invention is to provide a movable contact carried by a spring 0 in connection with a flipper bar so that the flipper bar can move back over the center before the contact is actually moved out of engagement with the fixed contact to break the circuit.
Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims.
In the drawings I have shown a vertical section through a pump used in connection with my fuel feeding systems for internal combustion engines, wherein a pump chamber 1 is employed formed of discs 2 and 3 between which is arranged a diaphragm 4 formed of a series of discs of fabric.
The; pump chamber is in communication with a valve casing 5 having the usual inlet and outlet check valves. A pipe 6 leads from the low level tank to the valve casing 5 and the pipe 7 leads from the valve casing 5 to the carbureter of the internal combustion engine wherein the movement of the diaphragm will cause fuel to be drawn from the low level tank and fed to the carbureter. An air tight chamber 8 is in communication with the valve casing so as to maintain a constant pressure on the liquid in the feed line from the pump to the carbureter.
Secured to the disc 2 is a casing 9 in which is arranged a coil 10 forming a solenoidin level tank into the chamber 1 and be forced to the right by a coil spring 13 in order to discharge the fuel from the chamber 1 and force it to the carbureter.
The solenoid is in electric circuit 14 hav-. ing a source of energy in the form of a battery 15, one end of the core of the solenoid having a fixed contact 16 which is adapted to be engaged by a movable contact 17 carried by a spring 18 which is secured to a pivoted arm 19 carried by a bracket 20, the end of the arm 19 being pointed and Working in a recess formed in one end of a flipper bar 21 and is provided with a point mounted in a recess of a bracket 22 as clearly shown so that when held into and out of contact with the fixed contact 16 in order to energize and deenergize the solenoid so as to move the diaphragm.
The disc 5 carried by the diaphragm carries a rod 23 on which is mounted a spool 24 arranged within an opening formed in the arm 19 so as to allow a slight movement of the rod 23 without moving the arm 19 so that the diaphragm is allowed to travel its full stroke before the circuit is broken.
In the drawing I have shown the diaphragm in the center of the chamber, the circuit being completed through the solenoid so as to move the diaphragm to the left and as the diaphragm moves to the left, the spool rides through the opening of the arm 19 a certain distance and then rocks the arm 19 on its pivot, the initial movement of which does not aifect the movable contact as the spring holds the movable contact with the fixed contact and'when the collar of the spool engages the arm 19, the arm is rocked and as it passes over the center the flipper bar moves it to the left so as to break the circult and hold the movable contact out of engagement with the fixed contact.
' On the reverse stroke, the rod travels a certain distance before the arm19 is rocked and when the flipper bar passes over the center, itcarries the arm 19 so as to force the movable contact into engagement with the fixed contact and complete the circuit. This is re eated as long as fuel is being consumed by t e internal combustion englne.
' From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided a novel form of pum for a fuel feeding system having a circuit maker and breaker in which the contact is moved into and out of engagement with the fixed contact and held in that position until the diaphragm has reached its limit of movement so that a full stroke of the diaphragm is obtained automatically in order to ump an ample supply of fuel to the charge orming dev1ce at all speeds of the en no.

An electric motor com rising an electric circuit, including a so enoid having a fixed and a movable core, a spring for moving said core in one direction, a source of energy, a fixed contact, a movable contact, a spring carrying said movable contact, a rod carrying said spring having an openin a flipper bar enga ng said arm, a yieldab e support for said 'pper bar, a rod carried by said movable core, a spool carried by said rod arranged within the openin of said arm forming a slidin connection t erewith, the movement of sai movable core causing said movable contact to be moved into and out of engagement with saidfixed contact to energize and deenergize said solenoid.

A motor comprising an electric circuit including a soleno1d having a movable and a fixed core, a spring for moving said core 1n one direction a source of energy, a fixed contact, a movable contact, a spring carrying said movable contact, an arm carrying sa1d spring having a pointcd end, a fli per bar having a recess engaging the pointe end of said arm, said flipper bar having a pointed end, a yieldable support havin a recess to receive the ointed end of said p er bar and a rod carried by the movable core aving a loose connection with said arm for rocking said arm for making and breaking said electric circuit. 3. motor comprising an electric circuit including a solenoid having a fixed and a movable core, a spring for moving said core in one direction, a source of energy, a fixed contact, an apertured arm carrying a spring provided with a contact adapted to engage the fixed contact, a flipper bar engaging the free end of said arm, a rod carried by said movable core, and a spool carried by said mamas-r and breaking said electric circuit.
