This invention relates to improvements in door peeps, and it is the principal object of my invention to provide a door peep, preferably for the metal doors of apartments, clubs,

etc. allowing an inspection of the person desiring admittance without being seen or observed by that person.

It will be understood that my invention is useful for many other purposes, and is aside of other purposes thought of to constitute a theft preventing device, as a sneak thief after ringing the bell several times and receiving no inkling of the presence of a person in the apartment will try to enter by means of a pass-key etc. and will be caught in the act.

Another object of my invention is the prof vision of a door peep of simple and therefore inexpensive construction which may readily be screwed into any metal door, into which a suitable hole has been out, which however cannot be unfastened from the outside.

A further object of my invention is the provision of a door-peep allowing a ready in spection of the objects in front of a door in all directions.

A still further object of my invention is the provision of a door-peep equipped with a conveniently operated means for closing the inspect-ion opening and with a lens suitably ground for allowing a clear vision from within to the outside, while preventing a person on the outside from noticing any observation from within.

These and other objects and advantages of my invention will become more fully known as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be more specifically defined in the appended claim.

In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a door equipped with a door-peep constructed according to my invention.

Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the door-peep on an enlarged scale.

Fig. 3 is a section on line 33 of Figure 1.

Fig. 4 is a rear elevation of the door peep.

which is screwed or otherwise secured a pref erably circular metal body 11 within a socket- The front part of this body is conical or funnel shaped as indicated at 13 with an outer margin 14 and a circular central peep hole 15.

Behind this opening a lens 16 is arranged which allows looking out of the door, however positively prevents looking into the room closed by the door.

At the rear of the body the same is formed with an outer margin 17, and a shutter 18 is pivotally secured at one end to said body, as at 19 and provided with an operating knob 20 at its opposite end part.

The operation of my door-peep will be entirely clear from the above description byinspection of the drawing and it shall here be emphasized that the lens allowing an inspection from the inside but preventing the person on the outside from noticing such inspection is held in a metal body which is readily screwed into a suitable opening made in the metal door and is positively prevented from extraction from the outside, while its outer funnel shaped face allows an inspection of the outside in all directions.

It will be understood, that I have shown the preferred form of my device as one example only of the many ways in which the same within the scope of the appended claim without departure from the spirit of my invention.

A door-peep for metal doors having a perforation therein, a circular metal body having a central opening and adapted to be screwed into the door perforation, an outer funnelshaped face on said body having a bevelled margin, an inner perforated face made integral with said body, a lens held between both faces of said body allowing an inspection of a person in front of the outer door frame from within, and a cover for the door peep pivotall secured at one end to the inner face of said )ody, and an operating knob on the other end of said cover.
