UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
HOWARD H. HUNTINGTON, OF HANOVER, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN SADDLERS HORS ES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 173,726, dated February 22, 1876; application filed December 23, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HOWARD H. HUNTING- TON, of the" village of Hanover, county of Jo Daviess, State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Saddler-s Horses, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The object of my invention is to enable-saddlers, harness-makers, carriage-trimmers, and shoemakers to use the horse for a greater amount and variety of work, and to work with more ease and rapidity.
The machine is illustrated in detail in the sectional elevation, Figures l and 2. Fig. 1 Fig. 2 represents the jaws closed.
Thestalionary jaw B is fastened into the The niovablejaw O is joined to the jaw B by a hinge, b, said movable jaw to be worked by an elbow-lever, D, let into lengthened jaws below the hinge connecting the jaws, the fulcrum of said lever bcingat d in the jaw B. At the upper end of the lever, at d, is placed a small wheel to overcome what little friction there may be, said lever working from left to right, and thus closing the jaws at the month. At the lower end of the lever is a strap, 0, connecting the lever with the treadle E. The treadle is joined at e to the standard, and is worked by the foot. ff is a metal notched bar, in whichthe jaws are held at any pointrequired by its engagement with a metal plate attached to the treadle. The jawsare held normally open by means of the springO, which is attached to thejaw B, and they areclosed by operating the treadle.
I claim- In a saddlers horse, the combination of the elbow-lever D, having the anti-friction roller d, and operating by suitable treadle mechanism, with the statiohary jaw B and hinged jaw C, said jaws being held normally open by a spring, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
HOWARD H, HUNTINGTON. Witnesses: I
S. A. STEvENs, GEORGE J EFFERS.
