Description

Nov.. 26, 1929. N. PAGANELLO MOUNTING FOR DOLLS EYES AND THE LIKE Filed NOV. 15, 1927 INVENTOR ATTORN EYS Patented Nov. 26, 1929 UNETEQ STATES NUNZIO PAGANELLO, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK MOUNTING FOR DOLLS AND THE LIKE Application filed. November 15, 1927.
This invention relates to a mounting for dolls eyes and the like and more particularly to means for adjusting the eyes with respect to the sockets in the dolls head.
One object of my invention is to provide means for adjusting the mounting as a whole vertically in the head, which means permits the mounting to be adjusted laterally and moved in an arc.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for moving each eye horizontally and longitudinally on its axis and securing it in position thereon.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for seperately rotating each eye on its axis, which means also permits the eye to be moved in a planehorizontal to its axis and locked in position thereon.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide a mounting having means for yieldingly holding the eyes in position adjacent the sockets in the head.
Another object of the'invention is to provide certain improvements in the form, construction and arrangement of the several parts whereby the above named and other objects may effectively be attained.
A practical embodiment ofmy invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 represents a vertical section through the head looking toward the front showing ,my improved mounting applied thereto;
Fig. 2 represents a vertical section taken in the plane of the line IIII of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows;
Fig. 3 represents a longitudinal section taken in the plane of the line III-HI of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows; and
Fig. at represents a vertical section, on an enlarged scale, taken in the plane of the line IV-IV of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows.
The mounting comprises a vertically disposed member denoted by 1 provided with ears 2, 8 extending outwardly therefrom and a member 4 disposed substantially in a horizontal position and at right an les to the member 1. The ears 2, 3 each previded Serial No. 233,489.
with a slot 5, in which rests a horizontal shaft 6. This shaft 6 is engaged by a coil spring 7 which is housed between the ears 2, 3 and the member 1 and a yoke 8 which straddles the spring 7 and shaft 6. The yoke 8 is secured to the member 1 by means of tongues 9 arranged to enter slots 10 in the member and be bent to lie flat against'the face of the member adjacent the dolls head 11.
ends will impinge against the member 1 and clamp the same firmly to the dolls head 11.
By releasing the set screws 16, 17 the member 1 may be adjusted vertically, as well as permitted a slight lateral movement or an arcuate movement in the strap 12, after which the member is again secured in such adjusted position by tightening the set screws 16, 17 in the strap 12.
Arms 18, 19 depend from the shaft 6, adjacent the ears 2, 3 of the member 1, and prevent longitudinal movement of the shaft in the slots in the ears. The depending arms 18, 19 are brought together at their lower ends and acounter-balance 20. affixed thereto.
its spool by means of arms 26, 27 which may be secured to the eyeball or formed integral therewith. The arms 26, 27 extend around the remainder of the exterior periphery of its spool and terminate in outwardly projectone of which lugs is screw threaded,
while the other lug is arranged to receive a screw 28 having an enlarged head 29, which screw engages the threaded lug. By moving the screw in the lugs the arms may be drawn together or spread apart so as to lock or release the eyeball from its spool. By releasing the screw'in the lugs of the arms 26, 27, the eyeball may be adjusted arcuately on its spool a slight distance in a horizontal plane and also rotated in a vertical plane on the spool.
Each eyeball 25 is provided with an eyelid 30 having lashes 31 ailixed thereto by cement, or other similar means, which eyelid is secured to the semi-spherical eyeball 25 by means of lugs 32 arranged to enter slots 33 in the eyeball and be bent against the interior wall thereof.
1 The eyeballs are each located on the shaft sot-hat they will register with their respective sockets 34 in the head 11 and from the foregoing it will be seen that the eyeballs will be yieldingly held adjacent the sockets and may be separately adjusted in a lateral as well as an arcuate direction with respect to each other and their sockets. Both eyes may also be adjusted vertically, laterally, or
arcuately as a unit, by the movement of the member 1 in the strap 12.
In order to limit the rocking movement of the shaft in the slot 5 of the ears 2, 3, the member 4 is extended outwardly in a sub stantially horizontal direction so as to form a stop which will be engaged by the depending arms 18, 19 when the shaft 6 is rocked, as shown in dotted outline in Fig. 2.
It is obvious that various changes may be resorted to in the form, construction and ar rangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention; and hence, I do not intend to be limited to the details herein shown and described, except as they may be included in the claims.
