FULMINATE-RIBBUN. No.173,675. Paten'ed Feb.'15l,1876.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFErgEc.
EDWARD sAvoEAL, oE NEW' YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN FULMINATE-RIBBONS,
Speeiieation forining part of Letters Patent No. 173,675, dated February 15, 1876; applieationled September 28, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, EDWARD SAvonAL. of NewYork, in the countyand Stute ofNewYork, have invented an Improvement in Fulminate- Ribbens5 and Ldo hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exztet description ofthe sinne.
My invention relates particularly to fulminate ribbon or tai-pe, such as is used for toy fire-arms, gas'ligbting apparatus, and other purposes, but is applica-ble to fnlminete pelleted ribbon of various descriptions, whether -made ofy paper, brons'material, or metal, and
without regard to the particular purpose for whiehit is used.
r[he object of my invention is twofold: hist, toinsure the accurate feeding of thel ribbon to the point at which the fulniimtte is to be exploded 5 end, second, to prevent the 'nre frein when one is4 spreading to another pellet exploded. To this end, the invention consists in providing the ribbon with 'one or more perforntions between every two of the fulrninnte pellets, for engagement with the device cm- `ployed for feeding the ribbon, and also to pre-y vent the explosion of one pellet from igniting another.
The perforntions may be of 4any such suit- `able shape and size, and in any suitable num Iber, between the pellets, according to the char- -acter of the `feeding device.
attached in the usuel or any suitable manner,vl
Between every two pellets e perforation, c, is made in the tepe. These perforatio'ns engage with e toothed feed-wheel, or a pawl, or other devicensed for feeding the ribbon, by admit' ting the projecting portion thereof, by which ineens said projecting portion of the feeding device is prevented from slipping over the surface of the ribbon, and is compelled to feed the saine regularly and accurately. By ineens of these perforations, also, the flame resulting from the explosion of one pellet is prevented from spreading to another.
What l cla-im as new, and desire to secure v by Letters Patent, is-
A inlxninete pelleted ribbon or tape, provided with pertbretions between the pellets, substztntially'ns and for the purpose .herein described.
EDWARD SAVORAL.
