' IMPROVEMENT IN PUNCHING AND SHEARINGMACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [73,530, dated February 15, 1876; application filed December 18,1875.
on line 0 c, Fig. 1, of my improved cutting Y and punching machine.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My in ention relates to an improved machine for punching and shearing ofi' flat and round iron, plates, bars, and rods; and it consists of two levers fulcrumed to supporting standards, and provided with front jaws, having-punch and die for perforating the plate,
which is held by hooks of the lower jaw. The rear ends of the levers have square recesses for shearing 011' round and flat bars. In the drawing, A represents a solid supporting frame with side'standards, to which the punching and shearing levers are fulcrumed sidewise of each other, so as to swing readily on the fulcrum-rod a, passing through perforations of the standards and levers. The levers B are provided with broad front jaws, of which the upper carries the punch b, while to the lower is applied the corresponding die b, with exit perforation. Strong retaining hooks, d, are pivoted to the lower jaw and placed with their square parts over the platebar, or rod to be punched, so as to retain the same when the punch is withdrawn on openin g the levers. The rear or handle parts of the levers B are provided with square recesses, 6. having cutting .edges,e, for the purpose of shearing off flat and round bars with equal facility.
The whole machine combines in compact shape the advantages of a shearing and,
punching machine that maybe readily employed for the different operations.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The improved compoundcntting and punching machine, consisting of frame A, having its standards connected by rod a, and the levers B, provided at the ends with punch and die I) b, the said levers having the corresponding recesses e, and cutting edges 6 near their middle, all as shown and described.
