This invention relates to a device for 'dispensing small quantities of liquid and has for an object a provision of a simple and eflicient device which may be used for a -filling station for cigar lighters.
An object of the invention is to provide a structure wherein the original container or can for inflammable fluid may be installed and operatively connected with the pump of the invention. I
Another object is to provide a simple and inexpensive means for obtaining frequent small quantities of inflammable fluid from the original container without danger of spilling or flooding the device to be filled with the fluid. I
Another object is to provide a device of this kind with a safety valve, depressible upon contact of the lighter or receptacle to be filled for the purpose of supplying an air tight passage from the pump to the fluid container.
Another object is to provide a device for purpose stated that simulates a miniature filling station pump.
Another object is to provide a dispensing device of the kind referred to, with a novel and simple bulb type air pump.
These and other objects are attained by the means described herein and disclosed in the accompanying drawings in which;

In the present embodiment of the invention, there is provided a rectangular hollow base 10 which may be made of sheet metal, and open at its rear end 11 to receive a sliding drawer 12 in which spare parts or stock may be disposed. section 13 and a rear section 14. The forward section has outwardly extending ribs 15 which are received in grooves 16, formed in the opposite edges of the rear section 1 1. The rear section 14 has secured'to it a suitable top or head piece, 17, which in the present embodiment simulates the iilluminated globe commonly seen on gasoline pumps and the like. The forward section 13 has formed on it an annular base flange 18 which is secured to the top face of the base 10. The rear section 14 has a pair of cross members 19 and 20, retaining it in its arcuate form. Adjacent the top of the forward section 13is a transverse bar or strip 21 which has secured to its lower face a cap 22, of a size sufficient to receive the mouth of an ordinary screw top container 23 in which the inflammable fluid is commercially sold. Beneath the bar 21 is a pair of angle brackets 24 secured internally on opposite sides of the section 13 and adapted to support the opposite ends of a removable cross member 25 which has a central threaded bore 26. A threaded stem 27 extends through the perforation26, and is provided on its top with disk 28 or plate to abut the bottom face of can or container 23 and having on its lower end a knob or key 29. A
I From the foregoing, it will be readily apparent that by retracting the stem 27 until the disk 28 abuts the top face of bar 25, it will be easy to insert the bar upon its angle brackets 24, beneath the container, such as 23. Thereafter, by turning the key or knob 29, disk 28 may be raised to tightly bind the container in position with the mouth thereof, in air tight contact with a suitable cork or other suitable, gasket, in the cap 22. The cap has extending therethrough for entry into the can 23, a tube 30, which communicates with a spout '31, disposed externally of the front section 13, and with the lower interior portion of the casin In the forward section13 is disposed a pair of opposed angle members 32, having short vertical flanges 33 inspaced alignment. A U-shaped metal clip 3 1 is adapted to have its arms 35 positioned on opposite sides of the flange 33 for retaining the clip in position. The
purpose of the clip 1 of plunger is to hold a rubber bulb 36 in position, whereby it may yieldingly retain the plunger 37 of an actuating member in an extended position. A fiat plate 38 is mounted on the inner end of the plunger 37 and is in contact with he bulb 36. Pressure exerted upon the button 39 of plunger 37, compresses the bulb 36 and forces air through the tube lO, which communicates with the cap 22. Intermediate the actuating button 39 and the spout 31 is disposed a relief valve 42, having an opening 43 communicating with the interior of tube 40 and closable by a valve 1 which is normally retained in an open position by spring 15.
From the foregoing, it will be apparent that if plunger 37 is actuated, the bulb 36 will pump air through tube &0, but no pressure will be built up within the container 23 because of the escape of air through the relief valve ea. As shown in Fig. 2, a ring 16 is secured to the outer face of the forward section 13 at a slight distance from the plunger button 39, so that an operator may insert his fore-finger in ring to and depress the plunger 37 with his thumb. The relief valve 42 has a head i7, against which an object to be filled, for example, cigar lighter 48, is pressed, for the purpose of disposing the filling opening of the object beneath the spout 31. By pressing the object against the valve button 17, the valve 4% is closed, whereupon the operation 37 aspreviously described, builds up air pressure within the container 23 and with each compression of the bulb 36, releases a small quantity of the fluid contents of the container through the tube 30 and spout 31. On the top of the base 10 and on each side of the cylindrical portion, is clip '19, each comprising four upstanding lugs 50 by which an oval container, such as 23 may be positioned and retained against tipping or accidental separation.
. The operation of the device has been described. It will be readily apparent that the device is adapted for other purposes'than that of filling cigar lighters.
hat is claimed is:
1. In a dispensing device the combination of a pump means, a cap, an air tubeconnecting the pump and cap, a self opening plunger valve communicating with the air tube intermediate the pump and cap, a container adapted to be sealed by the cap and a second tube extending through the cap and into the container, discharge end on the second tube, the discharge end of said second tube bearing such relation to the plunger valve as to require depression of the valve plunger by a receiving means when said means is held in position for receiving from the discharge end of the said tube.
2. In a dispensing device for dispensing liquid from containers, the combination of a casing, a cap fixedly mounted within the casing, a removable cross member beneath the cap, an elevating screw extending vertically through said cross member, the cap being adapted to receive the mouth of a container, the elevating screw serving to bind the container in such position that the cap may seal the mouth thereof, means to introduce air pressure into the top of the container and a discharge tube extending through the cap and into the container.
3. In combination an enclosing casing, a cap fixedly mounted within the casing, a discharge tube extending through the cap and casing, means to removably mount a container interiorly of the casing with the cap sealing the container and the tube extending into the container and means disposed within the casing and operable from the exterior thereof for building up air pressure within the container.
4. In a device for dispensing liquids from original containers the combination of a casin a cap within the casing, means for supporting and binding an original container for liquid in position with the mouth of the container sealed by the cap, air compressing means connected with the cap and housed within the casing and operable from the exterior thereof, a disabling valve adapted to normally render the air compressing means ineffective, a discharge tube passing through the casing and cap into the container, and
means adapted to be displaced by the body of a fluid receiver when held beneath the exterior end of the discharge tube for closing the disabling valve to render the air compressing means effective.
5. In an air compressing ball support and actuating means, the combination of a cas ing wall, a pair of spaced vertical flanges thereon, an air tube, an air compressing ball secured to said tube, an inverted U-shaped clip adapted to receive the flanges at its opposite ends and to retain the ball against movement in one direction and means extending through the casing wall for collapsing the ball against the clip.
6. In combination a longitudinally separable upright casing, a base flange on one section of the casing, a closing top on the other section of the casing, a container mounting means and dispensing apparatus associated therewith supported by and disposed interiorly of the first mentioned section of the casing and rendered inaccessible by the sec ond section of the casing and operating means for the dispensing apparatus mounted for actuation from the exterior of the casing.
7. In combination an enclosing casing, a cap fixedly mounted within the casing, a discharge tube extending through the cap and casing, means to removably mount a container interiorly of the casing with the cap sealing the container and the tube extending into the container, means disposed within the casing and operable from the exterior thereof for building up air pressure within the c0ntainer, and a disabling valve for the release of air pressure created by the pressure building means. 8. In a liquid dispensing device the combination of a hollow casing, a liquid container in the hollow casing, a discharge tube communicating with the liquid container in the casing, a nozzle end on the discharge tube disposed exteriorly of the casing, air pressure means communicating with the liquid container, means actuatable exteriorly of the casing for operating the air pressure means, and a control valve in communication with the air pressure means and actuatable by force applied thereon by a receiving means held in position for receiving liquid from the nozzle end of the discharge tube.
9. In a liquid dispensing device the combination of a hollow casing, a liquid container in the hollow casing, a discharge tube communicating with the liquid container in the casing, a nozzle end on the discharge tube disposed exteriorly of the casing, an air pressure creating means, tube means establishmg communication between the liquid container and the pressure creating means, and a control valve associated with the air pressure means and actuatable by force applied thereon by a receiving means held in position for receiving liquid from the nozzle end of the discharge tube.
10. In an air compressor support and actuating means, the combination of a casing wall,
. a clip, means on the casing Wall for removably mounting the clip in spaced relationship with the casing wall, an air compressor, a tube supporting the air compressor and communicating therewith, and means extending through the casing wall for collapsing the compressor against the removable clip.
