Description

Oct. 29V, 1929. H, DKREMER RAZOR BLADE PROTECTOR Filed Fgb. '16, 1928 IM/uente@ Patented oca 29, 1929I UNITED srArEst f1 ATENr ollilcs may D. naman, oF LnxrNeToN, maiwruoirr B AZOR-BLADE PROTECTOR pplication led February 16, 1928. erialltlb. 254,765.
This invention relates. to razor blade protectors and has for an object to provide a device for the protection of a safety razor blade against damage from external causes or from rust, erosion, corrosion or the like.
A further object of the invention is to provide a razor blade protector which comprlses essentially a casing with pads impregnated with anhydrous rust preventing fluid vto lift also the superimposed blade into 'osition for convenient engagement by the nger of the user.V
With these and other ects in View, ther invention comprises certain novel parts, lements, units, combinatlons, constructions, 1n-
. `teractions and functions as disclosed in the drawings together with mechanical and functional equivalents thereof as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.-
In the drawings: Figure/1 is a view of the device in plan. Figure 2 is a view of the device in edge elevation. vFigure 3is a longitudinal sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1 showing the device in closed and blade engaging position.`
Figure 4 is a similar longitudinal sectionA showing the several `parts'in open position and the blade lifted. c
Figure 5 is a plan view'o` the device'open.`4
Figure 6 isa transverse sectional view taken on line 6-6 of Figure 1.
Like characters of reference indicate correspondingv parts throughout the several views.
' The improved razor( blade protector which forms the' subject matterof this application comprises a boxlike body 10 having hinged of the` lid-properly proportioned to enclose the body 10. v
1 Within the body 1 0 a pad 13 is employed, which said pad is secured to the bottom of the body at one end, as indicated at 14, by any cementitious material, the other end being free from attachment. The free end is provided with a cut-out part 15 properly proportioned to permit the insertion of a finger, as' indicated at 16 in dotted lines at Figure 4,
Y'toengage the razor -blade 17 to remove such blade from the pad 13. To further assist in the convenience of removing vthe blade, a spring 18 is attached to the body at 19, and its free end is positioned to raise the free end of the pad 13 'to the posit-ion show n at Figure 4 whereby the nger 16 may be more conveniently inserted intovthe cut-out 15 for the removal of the said razor blade 17.
The lid 12 is also provided vwith a pad 20 which is preferably secured throughout the entire area of the lid and the Qombined thickness of the pads 1 3 and 20-is such as to normally slightly more than fill' the recess formed by thelid and body, requiring compression of the materials of the pads which serves to clam and to l orm a; seal at the cutting edges of the razor blade. Y
The pads 13'and 20 are preferably composed of animal ber, which contains less mois'- ture than vegetable ber and is -less liable to act corrosively upon the contained blade, and both'the pads 13 and 2 0 will preferably be impregnated with an anhydrous oil which will protect the blade from corrosion, assistin further in the formation 'ofthe seal about the (cutting edges. i
As shown in the drawings, the protector is confined to a single type f razor blade but Vit is to be understood thatl the illustration of the particular blade is only a' matter of convenience and that the protector will be made in any sizes -or shapes and for the accommodation and protection of any and all types of razor blades and that the showing of one particular'type of razor blade is no limitation upon the'invention.
The lid 12 and body 10 may be inter-associated in any approved manner.
the razor blade 17 firmly between I As illustrated in the drawings, a hinge 21 connects the two units, and a latch or Vcatch 22 retains the two parts in closed position when anged together. It is to be understood, however, that the invention is in no way limited to the specific type of hinging or catch and that any means of inter-association of the two units is within the scope of the invention.
' As hereinbefore pointed out, it is desirable that the pads 13 and 20 will be impregnated with an anhydrous oil, and the use of oils ordinarily available is, therefore, not considered wise. For this purpose, the device is provided with a can 23 having a screwl cap 2l the can being reduced intermediate its ends to belinserted slidablyinto a pocket 25 formed upon;oneoftheunits. The reducing as mentionedpr'ovides a can having its enlarged end flush1 with the pocket 25 and for the purpose ofre'moval and replacement, the edges of the can 23 arepreferably knurled, as indicated at 26 which knurlings are formed along the wider part ofthe'body of the can. While the invention is in no way limited to the specific type of can or to any can in combination. itis desirable that such can shall accompany the protector for supplying as occasion may require the desired or requisite quality of oilfor the proper protectionof, the blade. p From the foregoing description of the construction of the device, it is ybelieved that its operation and utility will be fully understood and that further explanation will be surplusage.
What I claim to be new is: y l. A razor blade protector comprising a body unit and an overlapping` lid unit, ab-
sorbent pads carried in ,proximate relation by -the units, and means tending to flex one ofthe pads intermediate its ends to elevate v one end out of its unit.
2. A razor yblade protector comprising a body unit and a lid unit, absorbent pads ca rriedA upon proximate surfaces of the units, said pads being normally of greater thickness than the chamber formed by the co-acting units and adapted to embed a razor blade therebetween, and means to flex one of the pads intermediate its ends to raise one end of the pad for elevating the razor blade.
surfaces of the interacting body and lid, and
a spring interposed beneath one end of one of the said pads, tending to flex said pad intermediate its ends to lift said end out of its unit.
5. A razor blade protector comprising body and lid units, absorbent pads carried by proximate surfaces of the units, one of said pads being secured adjacent one end of its unit and free adjacent its opposite end, and a spring interposed beneath the free end tending to iex said pad intermediate its ends to liftsaid free end out of said unit.
6. A razor blade protector comprising a body and a lid unit, absorbent pads carried by proximate surfaces of the units, one pad beinv secured at one end in its unit, the other end being free and provided with a cut-out, anda spring disposed beneath the free end tending to flex said pad intermediate its ends to lift said free end out of said unit.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.'
- HARRY D. KREMER.
