STOPPER FAUCET Filed July 16. 1926 2 gwtmnto'a Horace Butts Patented Oct. 29, 1 929 UNITED HORACE R. Bunsen MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, ASSIGNOR or ONErH-ALF TO WAL ER FOSNES',OEST.PAUL,MI1NNESOTA I I I I sweeper; mucm My invention relates to stopper faucets, in
which I desire to provide a stopper and fancet for a bottle, having a construction of a simple nature and designedto provide astopperwvhich can be used on a bottle having charged water orfothereff'ervescing" liquid. i
Afeature of my stopper faucet resides in pressure against the resilient body andicap of the stopper or which can bereadily removed and attached to another bottle or containeiny It is also affeatureof the invent-ion to provide a body having ashoulder portion which extends into the cap in a manner to provide means for holding the cap inrelation toithe resilient body of the stopper and 'alsoto form a closure plate or surface against which the top edge of the neck of the bottle engagesto seal 1 the bottle tightly with the body and flangeforining the shoulder on the stopper faucet. This construction ofmy stopper faucet provides a closure for a container which may be. made of a small number of parts and which can be attached easily when it is desired.
a My invention includes a stopper "faucet having a body portion formed of rubber'or' resilient material and wherein the memberforming the faucet nozzle is cast or imbedded with in the body in the makin'gpf the same and having a valve and operating member or end whichare held under tension of the'body in a position to close the nozzle of the faucet.
The pressure within the container where my faucet is used assists in'helping to keep the 1 p p p p "faucet tube 20 having thenozzle end 21 which vvalve of the same closed. p These features and other details and objects of rny invention will be more fully and clearlyset forth inthe following specification and claims: I
1926. 'seriar 1%. 122,317.
In the drawings forming part of the speci- I fication: a 1 1 Figure 1 isa side view of a bottle showing my stopper faucet-connected thereto;
F igure 2' is a central crossseotion of my stopper faucet; I I l Figure 3' is a perspective view of *thebody supportingiandlocking member; I
"Figure iis' a perspectiveview ofthe noz- Zle removed from the body. a I
/ In'the drawings my stopper faucet A is forinediwitha rubber or resilient bodyportionB having an inwardly extending core likeend member 10, which is adapted to fit in the neck C of a bottle for container so as toprovide astoppertoclosethe same.
The body portion B may be formed of rubher or other resilient material and in the'formation' of the same I provide an annular flange 11 which form'sa shoulder-adapted to engage against the inner-surface-of the body supporting member 12 I I "The body supporting member 12 is formed with an opening" 13 through which the upper portionie f the body Bext'ends with the flange shoulder '11 extending about the inner surface of the member-'12. The member 1'2 is adapted to'forma locking means for clampi-ng the stopper faucet A to the bottle neck C and is provided witlr a clamping ring 15 enaging the looped ends of the clamping fingers 16- v "By means'of a suitablelcam lever 17 which engagesthe endsof the ringlithe loweredge ofjtheclamping or'locking member 12 isdrawn taut against the lower edge of the riinof the bottle necktolockthe stopper faucet A with the flange 11 hearing againsttheup- ,Peredge IS of the bottle neck. y ,VVhen the stopper A is clampedto the hottleneck Gthe core portion 10 fits'in' the open ing of theneekto help to close thesame,whi1e sition to provide the stopper faucet for the bottle. l c i \The stopper lfaucet A is provided with a is adapted to extend out of the portion 14 and gthe shoulderfiange portion 11 locks the body B in p 'fforlnedwiththe inwardly projecting portion 22, whichextends t-h'rougha portion of the body 13 j and is preferabl positioned practi- 1'00 ing up to the nozzle tube from the portion 22 and with a small opening 28 extendingout through the end 14. This opening 28 is adapted to receive the upper end of the rod 25, which holds the valve 26 in place. In casting or molding the body B with the tube 20 therein, the materialisadapted to extend within and closely to the opening 2 L so as to provideasmall opening for the rod 25, in fact the opening 28 which receives the rod through the top portion 14 is smaller than the diameter of the rod and thus the rod 25can extend through the body B and provide a practically liquid tight joint. 7
' In placing the valve 26 with the rod 25 in position in the stopper faucet A, the rod 25 is connected to the operating cap or button 30 in a manner so that the valve 26,- together with thecap 30, are held against the resilient body B under tension bythe compression of the body Bsuiiiciently to. form a tight joint, wlnchholds the valve26 in normally closed position as illustrated in Figure 2. it will be noted that the upper portion 14L- of'the body B is formed with a frustuin conical portion 32 of a smaller nature than the upper end 1% of the body Band forming a resilient means which canbe depressed sufficiently, by V be inserted into theneck of a bottle, a raucet pressing on the button 30 to open the valve 26. l/Vhenthe valve 26 is opened theliquid from the bottle C will pass freelyjout of the tube '20,, being discharged from the nozzle 21. By this construction I provide a stopper faucet which'is extremely simple and inexpensive to make, yet'being very eiiective,;hav-
"ing asmall number of parts and operating so satisfactorily as to provide a stopper which .is interchangeable with difie'rent receptacles or' bottles. The stopper faucet is held by the locking member 12 to clamp the same tightly to the bottle, securely closing the bottle and permitting my stopper faucet to be used with eilervesclng liquid. in a very desirable manner It is an important construction in my stopper faucet that the end'of the tube 22 is spaced from the c'ndlO ofthe body, thereby providing a resilient seat for'the valve 26, and that the frustum conical portion '32 is of such a small dimension as to permit the cap 30 to be readily operated and depressed toopen the valve 26.
This structure limits anysprings and permits the casing ofthe faucet tube 20 within the'body' B. It is also a feature of the invention that the faucet tube 20 provides a reinforcing onstiffening means forthe body 'ofthe stopper. faucet in such a manner asvjto provide the'necessary rigidity in the operation and use of my stopper faucet.
In accordance with the patent statutes I have described the principles of operation of my stopper faucet together with the best embodiment thereof, and while the drawings illustrate a particular formation and constructionfli desire to have it understood that these are only suggestive of a means of carrying out my invention and that the same may be carried out by other means and applied to other uses within the scope of the following claims:
