BLANK BOOK Filed NOV. 26, 1926 M a [22a 4 191.44;
Patented Oct. 22, 1929 UNITED STATES CYRUS W. BEALE, OF RICHMOND, VIRGINIA BLANK IBOOK- Application filed November 26,1926; Serial No. 150,949.
This invention relates to books and more particularly to blank books having pages which are entirely blank or provided with blank spaces to be filled in.
The objects of the invention are First, to enable the convenient removal of the pages of the book from the cover or binder so as to enable the separate and individual use of each page for writing thereon, as by means of a typewriting machine, or for any other purpose;
Second, to enable the removal of the pages, of the book Without leaving any stubs or loose portions of paper within the cover or binder;
I5 and Third, to enable the convenient reassemblage and fastening together of the sheets or leaves and their return to the original cover or binder.
With these and other objects in view, the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it of course being understood that changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details may be made, within the scope of the claims, with: out departin from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawing:
1 Figure 1 is a perspective view of a blank book embodying the features of the present invention.
view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a detailed View of the book after the leaves have been removed and then returned to the cover or binder. I
The present book includes a binder orcover made up of a front cover member 1 and a back cover member 2, each of which members may be either stiff or soft and of any desirable material. The book contains a plurality of sheets designated 3, and each sheet is of a size to produce two pages and is provided with a weakened line extending along the middle of the sheet from one edge to the opposite edge thereof, and the sheet is folded along the weakened line so as to form two pages. A
Figure 2 is an enlarged detailed sectional plurality of such sheets are detachably secured to'the cover or binder at the weakened lined portions thereof. In the present embodiment of the invention, suitablestaples 5 are employed to detachably secure the sheets to'the cover, the inturned ends of the leg portions of the staples lying within the book and extending in the direction of the line of fold of the sheets. Each page of the book is provided with two or more perforations 6 adjacent theinner edge of the sheet, and the corresponding perforations of the several sheets register When the book is closed.
A blank book constructed as described may remain in its original condition and entries may be made upon the pages thereof by hand in the usual manner. Should it be desired to use the pages individually for any purpose, as for 1 instance for the purpose of making entries by theme ofa typewriting machine, the legs of the staples 5 may be straightened, the sheetsremoved from the back or binder, and the sheets torn along the weakened lines 4 so as to separate the sheets into individual pages. The individual pages may then be handled in any manner, as for instance filed separately, distributed to different places, or entries made thereon by hand or by the use of the typewriting machine. Subsequently the sheets of the book may be reassembled in their original order or in any order and secured together by fastening devices passed through the registered perforations 6, and then the reassembled sheets may be placed within .the'joriginal cover or hinder so'as to house and protect the sheets. y In Figure 3 of the drawing, the pages have been shown reassembled and connected together by means of a cord or tape passed through registered perforations of the pages. Of course, any suitable fastening means may beemployed and inserted through the perforat-ions. V I 1 In view of thefact that the weakened line, along which the sheet-s are separated, is located midway between opposite edges ofthe sheet,-no stubs or projecting portionsof the sheets remain within'the cover or binder, and therefore the reassembled pages may be conveniently returned to the original cover or binder in exactly the original positions.
The reassembled and connected sheets may remain as a unit loose within the cover or binder or may be pasted or otherwise secured within the cover or binder.
