mvEN'r oR CHARLES 6'. BLHCAMORE ATTORNEYS Patented Oct. 8, 1929 UNITED STATES CHARLES C. BLACKMORE, F DAYTON, OHIO TOY DUMP WAGON Application filed November 10, 192-7. SrialNo. 232,437.
My invention relates to a toy dump wagon. It is the object of my invention to provide a toy dump wagon composed of a few simple parts, while, at the same time, providing an economical form of dump body construction which is cheap enough for embodiment in a toy.
It is a further object to provide a toy of such rigid construction and large size that an ample load can be carried, and the toy will be strong enough for a child to rest his weight upon it.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan of the toy;
Figure 2 is a section on the line 2-2 thereof;
Figure 3 is a front elevation thereof;
Figure 4 is a section on the line t 1 looking in the direction of the arrows;
Figure 5 is a similar View showing the dump doors open.
Referring to the drawings in detail, 1 is a front axle having front wheels 2 mounted thereon. Upon this front axle is mounted a bolster 3 having a forwardly extending tongue portion 4 with depending attaching ears 5 having eyes 6 through which the cotter pin 7 is inserted for attaching the handle 8. With such an arrangement, it is possible to detach the handle during shipment so as to economize in freight and packing.
The tongue attaching portion is formed with a broad wedge-shaped plate so as to give rigidity and strength as a means of attachment of the handle 8 to the bolster 3. The bolster, the tongue attaching portion and the wagon body are connected together by a king bolt 9 so that a single simple connection will attach the several parts to one another.
The king bolt passes through a portion of the body that is formed of one piece of metal consisting of a dash board 10, a foot board 11, a heel board 12, a seat 13, a seat back 14, a connecting plate and the forward wall of the dump body 16.
On either side of this one-piece construction are mounted side walls consisting of a single sheet of metal arranged at the forward end in side boards 17 and the rear end in side walls of the body 18, the upper edges of the side walls having outwardly flared flanges 19 and the lower edges having inwardly extending flanges 20 which serve as eyes for pivotally supporting the hinged rods 21 of the dump doors 22. These dump doors are controlled in their open and closed positions by chains 23 mounted on acrank 24 journalcd in the side boards 17 and concealed beneath the one-piece structure which forms the forward wall of the body and the dash board seat construction. This preventsinjury to this operating mechanism.
A rear wall 25 is provided between the side walls. 1 i
The rear ends of the side walls serve as supports for the rear axle 26 on which are mounted the rear wheels 27.
Thus, the entire construction of the toy is composed of two side walls connected to the axles, a single bolster, a one-piece front wall and seat construction acting as tie members between the side walls and a rear wall plate. The dump doors are hinged to the side walls.
The bolster construction is rigid and strong by having a single king bolt which serves not only as a pivot but as a medium for tying together the running gear, the pulling gear and the body.
It will be understood that I desire to comprehend within my invention such modificag tions as may be necessary to adapt it to varying conditions and uses.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a toy, a front axle, a bolster, a tongue attaching portion rigidly connected to the bolster, a handle connected to the tongue attaching portion, an interconnecting seat member formed integrally with the front wall portion of a pump body, a king bolt passing through said bolster tongue attaching portion and seat portion, integral side wall and side body members, a rear body member, hinged dump body members, a rear aXle earried in said side walls and wheels thereon.
2. In a toy having integral side board and side Wall members, a one-piece dash board,
a floor board, a heel board, a seat, a seat back connecting plate and front body wall mem- 11 her mounted therebetween, a rear Wall body member mounted therebetween, hinged bottom Walls, means for actuating said hinged bottom Walls, front and rear axles, and Wheels, a bolster on said front axle and a king pin passing through said bolster and said floor board.
3. In a toy having integral side board and side Wall members, a one-piece dash board, a floor board, a heel board, a seat, a seat back connecting plate and front body Wall member mounted therebetween, a rear Wall body member mounted therebetween, hinged bo tom Walls, means for actuating said hinged bottom Walls, front and rear axles, and Wheels, a bolster on said front axle and a king pin passing through said bolster and said floor board, a tongue attaching portion having a board engaging end mounted adjacent to said bolster and attached thereto by said king pin, and means on the tongue attachportion for pivotally attaching a handle thereto.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature.
CHARLES C. BLACKMORE.
