Description

1929- A. TEISSERE ET AL 1,730,955 I DEVICE FOR OBTAINING DJUSTABLY INTERSPACED AND INCLINED HATCHINGS I THE BLICTROIAGNETIC PROCESS FOR ENGRAVING PRINTING ROLLERS Filed Dec. 17, 1927 r! HIHIII lllllillllllll IIIIHIII Patented Oct. 8, 1929 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE I ALBERT TEISSERE AND JEAN TEISSERE, OF ST. JULIEN, FRANCE DEVICE FOR OBTAINING ADJUSTABLY INTERSPAOED AND INCLINED HATCHINGS IN THE ELEOTROMAGNETIC PROCESS FOR ENG-HAVING PRINTING ROLLERS Application filed. December 17, 1927, Serial No. 240,856, and in France December 23, 1926.
The U. S. A. application for patent, Serial No. 57,178 filed Sept. 18, 1925, describes a new electro-magnetic process for engraving printing rollers, in which the pattern is reproduced on the rollers, by means of tracing tools which, when moving along said rollers engrave in same parallel hatchings.
This invention relates to a device for obtaining adjustably interspaccd and inclined 1O hatchings.
The accompanying drawings illustrate an example of execution of said invention.
Fig. 1 being an elevational view and Fig. 2 a side view of same.
On the bed 1 of the machine, is mounted the new device which receives its revolving motion from a gearing controlled by the main lead-screw; said device consists of the disc 2, with its auxiliary parts, mounted on the driving shaft of the apparatus and of the annular rib 3 forming part of a stationary plate, mounted on the bed 1 of the lathe and provided with adjustable cams 4;.
The roller 5 to be engraved is driven by the toe 6 of a cog-wheel 7 gearing in the worm-screw 8 keyed on shaft 9, on the ends of which shaft are keyed two ratchet-wheels 1O controlled by ratchet pawls 11. Said ratchet pawls 11 are impelled alternately by movable, spring controlled rods 12, when same come incontact with the cams 4i suitably arranged on rib 3.
At every stroke and back movement, the movable rods 12 abut against the cams 4 and drive the ratchet wheels 10, which shift as required the wheel 7 and pawl 6 by means of the worm-screw 8. This shifting is in proportion with the required escapement of the hatchings. The combination of the stroke of the tool in a direction parallel with the axis of the roller, with the revolution of the roller to be engraved, determines the obliqueness of the hatchings.
We claim: I
1. In machines for engraving printing rollers, in combination: a rotatable element, means to impart a continuous rotary movement to said element, movable elements adapted to rotate integrally with said rotatable element, a stationary plate mounted on the bed of the machine, abutment means adjust'ably mounted on said plate and adapted to impart at adjustable intervals to said movable elements a reciprocating movement in a direction parallel to the axis of said rotatable element, ratchet Wheels adapted to be rotated by said movable elements when they are actuated by said abutment means, means to transmit the intermittent rotary movement of said ratchet wheels to the roller to be engraved, whereby adjustably interspaced and inclined hatchings can be obtained on said roller with the help of a suitable tool.
2. In machines for engraving printing rollers: a disc, means to impart a continuous rotary movement to said disc, spring-com trolled rods adapted to rotate integrally with said disc, a stationary plate mounted on the bed of the machine, an annular rib forming part of said plate, cams a'djustably mounted on said rib and adapted to impart to said spring-controlled rods a reciprocating movement in a direction parallel to the axis of said disc when said spring-controlled rods encounter the cams during their rotary movement about the axis of the disc, pawls pivotally connected to said spring-contro1led rods, ratchet wheels adapted to be rotated by said pawls when the spring-controlled rods are actuated by said cams, and a worm gearing capable of transmitting the intermittent r0- tary movement of said ratchet Wheels to the roller to be engraved.
In testimony whereof We signed hereunto our names.
ALBERT TEISSERE. JEAN TEISSERE.
