TINNERS" FIRE-POT.
310.173.0952. Patented Feb-1,1876.

UNITED STATES PATENT QFEIGE.
JOHN H. WHITLTNG, OF SALEM OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT m TlNNERS FIRE-POTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 173,095, dated February 1, 1876; app ication filed v December 15,1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. WHITLING, of Salem, in the county of Columbiana and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tinners Fire -Pot; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full. clear, and exact description 'thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specifica- Fig. 2 is a top Fig. 3 is Figure 1 is a perspective. view without the spherical covers.
1 a vertical section on a line parallel with the chamber, 0 between the two shells, as shown.
in Figs, 3 and 4. These shells rest loosely upon a disk forming a floor, D, fitted inside of the upper part of the body of the furnace, and resting upon shoulders or lugs formed on the furnace, The central partof the disk is provided with a slot, a, and with flanges b 1), extending downward by the sides of the pipe E, which, by means of cock d and pipe E, connects with the reservoir G. The upper side of the disk is provided with lugs c to hold in place the shell 0. F is an apron or hearth,
and below it is a sliding door, d, to an opening all around the base.
ing, giving access to the burner, for lighting or cleaning the same The base 3 of the fur nace is provided with draftopenings b on all sides, which are closed and opened, as required, by an inside circular slide, G extend- His a burneron the end of pipe E, which is curved downward to extend theburner under the pipe at the middle of the furnace, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawings. at c on a line with the bottom of the furnace, and attached at one end to the base B and at the otherend t0 the cock d, as seen in Fig.1. I s
Soldering-furnaces when used out of doors are liable to difiiculty from strong winds,
which difliculty is avoided in this furnace by placing the draft-openings at the bottom and all around the bottom of the furnace, and providing them with a slide, by which the draft may he graduated or shut off entirely, as required.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The furnace-A B, having draft-openings b and slide 0 at the lower part of the base, and
door 61 opposite the burner, in combination with shells G G, forming air-chamber .0, disk D, having slot a and flanges b b, and pipeE, having burner H, substantially as and for the purposes described. In testimony that 1 claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
