COVER FOR SHOE HEELS I Filed April 14. 1928 Inventor Frizz/M12762 rs/z a Z 0,
B] Attormq Patented Oct. 8, 1929 UNITED STATES PATENT- OFFICE EMMA MARSHALL, OF NEW ROCKFORD, NORTH DAKOTA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JOHN CRAWFORD, OF NEW ROCKFORD, NORTH DAKOTA COVER FOR SHOE HEELS Application filed April 14, 1928.
The present invention relates to attachments for shoe heels and has for its object to provide a removable cover adapted particularly for use upon rubber heels of shoes to facilitate the insertion of the shoe into an overshoe. Due to the relatively narrow top of overshoes, considerable difliculty in placing the overshoe upon the shoe because of the frictional engagement between the rubber heel of the shoe and the back of the overshoe, which difficulty frequently necessitates the wearing of a larger size overshoe by a person than is actually required.
My invention accordingly comprises the provision of a cover for the rubber heel of the shoe so as to prevent contact of the rubber heel with the material of the overshoe and thus facilitate the insertion of the shoe in the overshoe.
A further object of the invention is to pro vide an attachment of this character which may be easily and quickly placed upon the heel of th shoe and removed therefrom when desired, which is neat and effective in appear ancc, which will not injure the overshoe while placing the shoe therein, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the special construction and combination of the various elements comprising the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation illustrating the shoe in the act of being inserted in the overshoe, and
Figure 2 is a perspective View of the heel attachment.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the invention comprises a heel cover composed of a base plate 5, shaped in conformity with the sole of the heel of the shoe about the side and rear curved edges of which is formed an up standing flange 6, adapted to form a snug fit Serial No. 270,103.
therewith and thus frictionally retain the at- I tachment upon the heel. The attachment is constructed preferably of a suitable smooth, tough, springy substance, such as leather fiber, or other smooth, rigid material, of comparatively thin formation so as to not materially increase the size of the heel. lVhen placing the shoe with the attachment fitted upon the heel, in the manner indicated in Figure 1, within the overshoe shown at 11, it will be apparent that when the heel engages the rear portion 12 of the overshoe, that by reason of the smooth finish of the attachment, the heel will slide over the material into its position within the overshoe.
It is obvious that the invention is susceptible of various changes and modifications without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of its advancages, and I accordingly claim all such forms of the device to which I am entitled.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. A heel cover for shoes constructed of anti-frictional material and comprising a base plate having'upstand n walls formed H about its side and rear edges conforming in shape with the heel, said walls being substanti ally co-extensive with the side and rear walls of the heel and adapted to fit snugly thereon and friction gripping means carried at the forward edge of the base plate engageable with the forward edge of the heel for removably securing the same thereon.
2. A heel cover for shoes constructed of anti-frictional material and comprising a base plate having upstanding walls formed about its side and rear edges conforming in shape with the heel, said Walls being substantially coextensive with the side and rear Walls of the heel and adapted to fit snugly thereon, and a spring pressed tongue formed at the forward edge of the base plate extending up Wardly therefrom and arranged for engagement With the forward edge of the heel Whereby to frictionally engage the same and removably secure the cover upon said heel.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
EMMA MARSHALL.
