Description

F. JACOBS Get. 8, 1929.
SUPPORT Filed April 20, 1927 Patented Oct. 8, 1929 UNITED STATES FRED JACOBS, OF SPOKANE, WASHINGTON.
snrronr Application filed April 20,
My present invention relates to an improved support which while capable of use in a variety of ways, is especially designed and adapted for use in the kitchen in connection with the ordinary type of household stand boiler or hot water boiler of cylindrical shape in which the water is heated from the kitchen range or furnace and through pipe connections to the stand boiler.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a convenient and readily accessible support upon which various kitchen articles and other household articles may be supported or suspended, and while thus suspended or supported, dried by radiation of heat from the hot water in the stand boiler.
Means are provided for suspending hand towels, tea towels, wash cloths, and various types of garments for personal wear from the support to be dried or warmed, and a variety of hooks or suspending devices are utilized on the support to accommodate dilferent shapes and forms of articles. The invention consists in certain combinations and. arrangements of parts as will hereinafter be more specifically pointed out and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of my invention wherein the parts are combined and arranged according to the best mode I have thus far devised for the practical application of the principles of my invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a support embodying my invention and shown attached in operative position about the exterior of a stand boiler.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the support, detached.
section of the clamp ring or support, partly broken away, and showing a pair of locking slots therein.
Figure 3 is a face view of a portion of the main section of the ring or support, showing its locking head for use with the slotted section in Figure 3.
Figure 4 is a perspective detail view of one of the rigid hooks and its adjustable brackethanger used on the ring.
Figure 3 is an exterior face view of one 1927. Serial No. 185,183.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of one of the adjustable bracket hangers having a foldable'or pivoted suspension arm.
In order that the general arrangement and relation of parts may be understood I have shown in Figure 1 a usual type of stand boiler or cylinder S about the exterior of which the support of my invention is to be secured in desired position so that it will be accessible for use. r
The support includes "an annular band, preferably of metal, that is provided with means for clamping it on the stand boiler, and for convenience in attaching or applying the annular band about the exterior ofthe stand boiler the band is made up of a main section 1 and an adjusting section 2. These sections are fashioned with complementary end flanges 3 and 4 that are provided with holes for a pairof clamp bolts 5, and by means of the nuts 6 on the bolts the latter are made to clamp the support or annular band in fixed position on the stand boiler.
The annular band is adjustable for use with stand boilers of various sizes, and for this F purpose the short section 2 is provided with a somewhat circular head 7 that is fashioned with a pair of ears 8, 8 forming horizontal notches 9, 9 between the head and the tapered end 10 of the section 2. This head 7 and its f ears 8, 8, that are slightly offset from the inner face of the head, are adapted to co-act with a selected one of a plurality of verti-, cally arranged slots 11, spaced apart and located near the end of the main section.
For locking the main section and the adjusting section together, the head 7 is slipped, from the exterior, through one of the slots, with its ears 8, 8, to the inner side of the slotted end of the main section, and the offset ears 8, 8, project past the slot, similar to hooks, to prevent unlocking of these parts. After the approximate diameter of the support has thus been provided, it is clamped on the stand boiler, as in Figure 1, by the U use of the bolts or screws flanges 3 and 4.
For use with the annular band I employ clips as 12 and 13, made of metal and adapted 5 and nuts 6 in the to straddle the upper edge of the annular 1 band. These clips or bracket-hangers are preferably of inverted U-shape and lit the V band in such manner'as to permit ready adjustment by sliding around the band, but at the same time engage the band with sufficient friction as to retain them in proper position for use. p
The adjustable bracket-hangers 12 are provided with fixed hooks 14 secured to the hangers as by rivets or screws 15. The adjustable bracket-hangers 13 are provided with foldable or swinging bracket arms 16 having angular stems 17 supported to swing or turn in the hinge-keepers 18. These hinge-keepers or sockets are preferably fashioned of walls that are integral With the bracket-hanger 13 which is slotted for the purpose and then the wall 18 is punched therefrom, or fashioned in other suitable manner to provide a support for the stem 17 of the bracket arm.
The bracket- hangers 12 and 13 may be slid around the band to desired position or location, and the pivoted bracket arms 16 may be turned to desired position for best supporting or suspending the article.
If desired, additional hooks as 19 may be attached, as by rivets, to the exterior'face of the band for use in some instances for the convenience of the housekeeper.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire tosecure by Letters Patent is-' A bracket, for sl'id'able use on a support, comprising an inverted U-shaped hanger, said hanger having a pair of spaced slots and a vertical supporting wall punched therefrom,
and an angular bracket arm pivoted in said wall.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
