lM PROVEMENT IN SAFETY-PINS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 173,067, dated February 1,1876; application filed September 11, 1875. I
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ABRAHAMV. SARGEANT, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of 4 New Jersey, have invented an Improved Safety-Pin for Horse-Blankets, and other purposes;
4 and I do hereby declare that the following is one piece of Wire,
i at the head in a coil, B, and the wire continua full and exact description thereof, reference ing thence in a safety-shaft, O, nearly parallel with. the pin proper, and then terminating in a fastening-hook, D, formed by flattening the wire at that end, bending it at right angles to its shaft toward the point a of the pin, and finally having it bent and redoubled back parallel with itselt'nearly or quite even with the shaft, as shown at b. The point a of the pin, in fastening, is raised up over the end b of the I safety-hook and then it springs down into the bottom of 'the hook, where it is held with perfect security on account of the distance which the pin springs into the hook, being bent against its elasticity the whole depth of the hook, whereby it cannot be disengaged from the hook by any ordinary action or accident.
