One object of the invention is to provide vmeans for connecting thebody bolster of a 6 car-to the cooperating truck bolster in such a manner that accidental separation of the same is prevented, wherein the connecting means includes a center pin provided with a sectional, detachable locking head member, having the sections'thereof seated in a pocket of the cooperating bolster to retainthe'same engaged with the pin, one of the walls of the pocket being cut away to provide a removable Wall section, the cut-away portion permitting insertion of the sections of the'head and assembling of the same withthe pin, and
a locking key forming a detachable .vvall section insertible in said cutWay portion, the locking key being secured to one of said sec- 7 tions to prevent removal of the key.
Other and further objects of the invention will more clearly appear from the description and claims hereinafter following. In the drawing, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 isa top-plan view of the central section of the body bolster member of a railway car, illustrating my improvements inconnection therewith. The;body bolster l0 is provided with a downwardly projecting bearing section 12, which cooperates with a bearing block 13 supported on the truck bolster member'll. The block 13 isdisposed within the usual pocket 14 provided at the .top of the member 11. The bearing- members 12 and 13 are 7 provided with cooperating spherical bearing surfaces and the member 13'has an upstanding central projecting portion '15 which engages within the recess at the center of the bearing member 12. The body bolster member is provided with a' pocket 18 at the top thereof, the pocket being centrallyaligned with the pin receiving opening 16 and having an oifset'section-19 providing a key receiving seat. As clearly I shown in Figures 1 and 2', the pocket. is of greater diameter than the corresponding. pin receiving opening 16, so to"accommodatethe sections of the sectional head 13, as hereinafter more clearly pointed out;
The truck bolster 11 is provided with a pocket 20 at the bottom thereof, which is in alignment 7 with the opening 17 and is adapted to accommodate the head of the'center pin.

The center pin A extends through theopenings 16 and 17 of the body and truck'bolster members. and, as shoWn','the shank thereof is of appreciably smaller diameter than the openings. At the bottom end, the pin A is provided with an integral head 21 which fits within the pocket 20 and has shouldered'engagement with the top wall of said pocket. At the upper end, the pin A is provi'ded'with ahead 22 of smaller diameter than the head 21, the head 22 being of such asize as to be passed'freelythrough the pin receiving'openings of the truck andbody bolsters. The head 22provides an annular shoulderat the bot- 'ing key C, which is attached to one of the. I
tom side thereof, which serves as anchoring I B, as hereinafter'pointed out. r
The sectlonal head B comprlses four memmeans for the sections of the detachable head bers, one of which is shown in detail in Figure 3.. Each of the sections comprises a curved wall portion 23having an inwardly extending, horizontal flange 24 at'the bot tom thereof. The four sections, when assenr bled,'form a complete annulus. -As clearly shown in'Figure 1, the offset section 19 of the 1 I pocket 18 of'the body bolster corresponds in lengthto one of the sections of the head B and is of sucha width as toprovideja seat to permit insertion of one of the sections of the head B, so that the flange 24 at the bottom of said section will clear the head 22 of the pin. As shown in Figure 2, the head 22 of the pin is so disposed as to leave clearance between the same and the bottom wall of the 7 pocket 18to accommodate theflange'portions' 24 of the sections of the head B. r c i The key'memberC is in the form of a heavycurved plate which occupies the offset section of the pocket 18 and is adapted to'fit snugly between the outer wall of said offset 7 section and the adjacent section ofthe head side of the truck bolster, the shank of the pin being passed through the openings 17 and. 16 of the truck and body bolsters, respectively. When the'pin proper has been placed i'n'this position, one of the sections of thehead B is inserted'within the offset seat portion of the pocket 1.8 and then moved laterally inwardly to engage the flange 2 L thereof 7, beneath the head 22 of thepin. The section which has been applied is then rotated to dispose the same between the curved wall'of the pocket and the head 22 of the pin, to one side of the offset section of said pocket.- The remaining sections of the head B are then assembled'in a similar manner untilthe last section is placed in position. VVhen'the last section has been placed in position with the flange thereof engaged beneath the head 22 of the'center locking pin, the key C is inserted within its-seat, the key forming in effect 'a' detachable wall section of the pocket 18. 7
As will be evident, whenthe key C is in position, the sections of the head B will be embraced in their entirety by the wall of the pocket, including the detachable wall section, thereby preventing detachment of the sections of the head from the head 22 of the center locking pm; :In order to prevent accidental v removal of the key forming the detachable wall section, the cotter pin D is then inserted through the openings in the key and thesection of'the head B last applied and secured in position, thereby permanently attaching the key to the removable sectional head B and preventing removal of said key.
I As-will be evident,Vendwise'removal of the center pin A in both directions will be prevented by the fixed head'21 and the detachable head B, respectively.

In a center pin locking arrangement for railway cars the combination with a body bolster member and a truck bolster'member, said members having aligned center pin receiving openings, one of said members having a pocket communicating with the pinreceiving opening thereof, said pocket beinglaterally extended beyond the side wall of said opening; of a pin extending'through said opening and having a head at one end having shouldered engagement with one of saidmembers, a sectional head secured to the other end of the pin and having shouldered engagement with the other member, the sectionsof said head' being engaged with the pin by entering the same within the laterally extended portion of the pocket, said sections-when engaged with the pin being rotatable to dispose thesame in locklng relation with the side walls of the pocket, thereby preventing lateral removal of said sections; and means for closing said ex tended portlon of the pocket 3. Ina railway car construction, the comtruck bolster member on which the body bolster member is swiveled; a pin extending through said members, said pin having a head at one end, of larger size thanvthe pin receiving opening, the other end of the pin having a head of a diameter not greater than the pin receiving opening; a detachable sectional 'head member embracing said last named head of the pin; and abutment means surrounding said pin-receiving opening embracing the sec tional head member, to prevent separatlon of the sections thereof, said abutment means-including a removable wall section.
4. In a center pin locking arrangement for railway cars, the combination with a body bolster member and a truck bolster member on which'the first named member is swiveled; of
a pin extending through said members, said pin having a head at the lower end, cooperate ing with abutment means on the truck bolster member, said pin havingan annular shoulder adjacent the'upper end thereof; a detachable sectional head member embracing the upper end of the pin and cooperating with theabut- :ment means on the'vbody bolster ;member,';the
sections of said head closely embracing the pin and having in-turned flanges having shouldered engagement with said annular shoulder; and an upstanding abutment Wall on the body bolster, surrounding the pin receiving opening thereof embracing the sec- I tional head member, to prevent separation of the sections thereof, said Wall having a section thereof removable to permit assembling of said sections with the pin, and means for securing said removable Wall section to one of said head sections. 7
5. In a center pin locking arrangement for railway cars, the combination. with a'body bolster member and a truck bolster member,
said members having aligned center pin receiving openings and one of saidmeinbers being provided with a pocket aligned with the center pin receiving opening thereof, said pocket having an annular side Wall including a fixed wall section and a removable Wall section, said bolster having a seat for said removable wall section; a center pm accommodated in said pin receiving openings, said centerpin. having a sectlon thereof extending through said pocket, said last named section of the pin being provided with an annular shoulder; a detachable cylindrical head secured to the last named section of the pin, said head comprising a plurality of sections embracing the pin, said sections having in-turned flange portions engaging with the shoulder of the pin, said sections being embraced by the annular side wall of the pocket and held against lateral separation thereby, said removable wall section, when detached, permitting insertion of the sections of the head, said sectionsbeing laterally displaceable toward the pin in said seat to permit engagement of the flanges thereof beneath the shoulder of the pin and being rotatable bodily in said pocket to dispose said sections about said pin between the pin and the side Wall of the pocket, to prevent lateral separation of said sections of the head.
