GAME DEVICE Application led. March 26, 1928. Serial No. 264,886.
rllhis invention relates to a new and amusing device in the nature of a target game especially adapted to amuse children or to improve the shooting abilities of adults.
The invention has for an object the provision of an air gun adapted to shoot a bullet at a target embodying an automatic mechanical means of notifying the shooter or player that the bulls eye of the said target has been hit by the bullet.
A further object of the invention is to notify the shooter that the target card has been hit by the bullet.
Another object of the invention is to provide a target of simple construction and arrangement of parts comparatively cheap to manufacture and assemble. p
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of my improved target.
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the target after the bulls eye has been hit.
Fig. 3 is a similar1 view to that shown in Fig. 1, illustrating another form of my improved target.
Fig. 4 is a similar view showing the target after the bulls eye has been hit.
Fig. 5 illustrates a further form of my improved target.
Fig. 6 is a similar view to that'shown in Fig. 5 after the bulls eye has been hit.
Fig. 7 is a still further form of my improved target.
Fig. 8 is a side elevational View of the gun and bullet as embodied in my improved device.
Fig. 9 is a vertical sectional view, taken on the line 10--10 of Fig. 10.
Fig. 10 is a rear elevational view of Fig. 9.
Fig. 11 is an enlarged fragmentary rear elevational view Iillustrating in particular a further development of my'iniproved target.
Fig. 12 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 12-12 of Fig. 11.
As here embodied my improved target game comprises an air gun 10, or rifle, such as generally employed to shoot a bullet 11, of spherical shape preferably of lead and which is secured to the free extremity of the flexible member 12 attached to the air gun. The above mentioned air gun may be comparatively small so as to be safely used by children or may be constructed so as to shoot the bullet 10 at considerable range and velocity rendering my improved game device instructive` to adults as a medium of target practice.
. My improved target comprises a body member 13, of cardy board, fibre board, wood, metal or any suitable composition, material, formed or cut square.
A pair of flexible members 14: and 15 are extended through the tubular rivets 16 and 17, or grommets respectively, secured to the upper portion of the said body member and provided for the purpose of suspending the target from a limb of a tree, or any suitable support, or so as to permit the target to be held suspended from the hands of a person.
The body member 13 has formed therein a central aperture 18, of circular shape and has affixed thereto a plurality of rings 19 of any desired various and different colors, concentric with the aperture 18, so as to provide a bulls eye. I
The indicator card 20 of rectangular shape, is slidably mounted vertically in the bracket 21, secured to the rear upper portion of the said body memberby the above mentioned rivets 16 and 17. The bracket 21 having its central portion formed or bent somewhat outwardly from the body member 1() so as to form an opening adapted to slidably receive the said indicator card. f
The above described construction is such as will normally permit the said card to be held-directly at the rear of the body member 10, in an unextended position, so as to allow the numeral 30, affixed to theV said card to be visual through the aperture 18 'formed in the said body member. The above described construction is also such as will permit the said card to be released from the clip 26, when the target is struck iu the center or in the aperture 18, which scores a bulls eye, so as to permit the numeral identical with the above mentioned numeral 30, to be visual above the body member 10, as a means of notifying the shooter that al bulls eye has been scored. It is obvious that the tension spring will urge the indicator card upwardly, when the said card is released from the clip 26, as above set-forth.
In Figs. 3 and 4 of the accompanying drawing, I have shown a body member 31 formed or-cut circular, so as to conform to the concentric rings 19 aiiixed thereto. rIlhe indicator card 32 having afi'ixed thereto, at the upper portion thereof any desired object 33, representing preferably a turkey, visible when a bulls eye has been scored, for the purposeA as above set forth.
In Figs. 5 and 6 of the accompanying drawing, I have shown a somewhat larger body member 34, cut or shaped square, and having formed therein apertures 35 and 36, circular shape, similar to. the above mentioned aperand extended therefrom at the bottom there- 0f, a pair of supports 42 and 43, having therein extended extremities pointed as at 44 and 45, respectively as a means of lsupporting the target in the ground.
The body member 41 has afHXed thereto a plurality of bulls eyesA 46 arranged in a horizontal row in proximity to the upper portion thereof, and has also aiiXed thereto a plurality of bulls eyes 47, similarly arranged in a horizontal row in proximity to the lower portion of the said body member.
` The said bulls eyes 46 and 47 are relatively staggered, so as to prevent interference of the indicator cards provided from the above described purpose, when in a visibly exposed position above the upper portion of the body member.
In Figs. 11 and 12, I have shown secondary indicator card 48 hinged as at 49 to the bracket 50 secured as at 51 to the lower portion ofthe body member 13. A supporting strip 52 is secured as at 53 to the free eX- tremity of the card 48 constructed preferably of comparatively soft pliable metal, so as to. be readily bent or formed to hold the card in any desired angular upwardly inclined position toward the body member 13. The above described construction is such as will permit the said card to assume a downwardly inclined position as designated by the reference numeral 54 when my improved target is hit `by the above mentioned bullet, the
latter described notifying the shooter that the target was hit, although a bulls eye was not scored which will tend to increase and hold the interest of the shooter, the said card being visible from the front of the target.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is :M
In a game device of the class described, a target with a central aperture representing a bulls eye, a bracket located near the top of the target and having end portions secured on the target and a central projecting portion forming a passage with a portion of the target, a card flat against the target and crossing the bulls eye andhaving its top: end normally engaging in said passage and its bottom end held, so that when the card is hit thru the bulls eye a portion thereof moves for freeing the held bottom end, while the upper portionv remains motionless and signature.
