CARBONATED-BEVERAGE CONTAINER Application filed February 16, 1929.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in dispensing machines, and particularly to liquid dispensing machines.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a removable container portion or section, of a beverage container, which is adapted to contain a carbonated beverage. Another object is to provide a carbonated beverage container section which is capable 1 of being easily handled, or shipped, and
which can be quickly applied to the dispensing mechanism of the container, whereby to permit the dispensing of such carbonated beverage.
Another object is to provide such a container section which may be refilled, after having once been emptied.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal central sectional view through a liquid dispensing machine, equipped with the removable beverage containing section applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the same.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 represents the lower portion of the beverage container, which has the discharge spout 11, provided with a charge measuring valve therein and operable by means of the spring pressed stem 12. In the upper edge of the said portion 10 there is formed a groove 13, in which is seated a packing ring 1 1. On the outer face of the said portion 10 are formed the internally threaded bosses 15, and screwed into these bosses are the lower ends of the vertical rods 16, said rods being equipped with the binding wingnuts 17, on their upper ends, for a purpose which will presently appear herein.
The upper portion, or section 18, of the container, comprises a cylindrical enclosing wall 19, the ends of which are properly secured to the ends or heads 20 and 21, internally thereof, said heads being formed with the flanges 22. The upper head 21 is provided with the radially extending hooks 23, in which are received the upper ends of the before-mentioned rods 16, said Wing-nuts 17 being arranged to be screwed down onto the said hooks whereby to tightly clamp the section 18 onto the lower section 10.
In the center of the bottom of the section 18 there is formed the downwardly extending discharge nipple 24, and surrounding the upper end of the bore of said nipple is the bevel valve seat 25. Engaged on this seat is the conical valve head 26. The upper wider end of the valve head is formed with an undercut seat 27 in Which is seated the head 28, of the adjacent end of the operating rod 29, whereby to permit independent rotation of the rod and valve head, but with a lifting and depressing action thereon, as the rod moves upwardly and downwardly.
In the center of the upper end of head 20 there is formed a depression 30, and extending downwardly from the central opening 31, in the bottom of said depression, is a nipple 32, the lower portion of which is reduced in diameter externally as well as internally. Both the upper and lower portions of the bore of the nipple 32 are threaded, those of the upper portion being of the V-shaped type, while those of the lower portion being of the angular or square type. The upper end of the rod 29, which projects upwardly through the said bore and into the depression 30, is formed with threads corresponding in shape to those of the lower portion of the bore. Screwed into the upper portion of the bore of the nipple is a bushing 33, in which the upper end portion of the rod is adapted to be rotated, said rod having an angular portion 29', for engagement by key, not shown, for turning the rod to seat and unseat the valve head 26. Suitable handles 34 are formed on the upper end of the section 18, to facilitate handling the section, and to permit easy carrying thereof.
In the practice of the invention, a section 18, containing a carbonated beverage, at a predetermined pressure, is placed on the low er section 10, so that the said rib of the section 18 rests on the packing ring within the groove 13. The rods 16 are then engaged in the hooks 23 and the nuts drawn down tightly, whereby to effect a tight joint between the sections. A key is then applied to the upper end of the rod 29 and the same rotated to lift the valve head 28 from its seat, whereby to permit the beverage to flow into the lower section 10. It will be understood that the pressure in the section 18 is in excess of that desired for the dispensed beverage, so that when the beverage is released into the lower section 10, the expansion of the beverage will thus bring the pressure down to that desired for dispensing.
When one section 18 has been emptied, it is only necessary to remove the suction and replace it with one which is filled with a carbonated beverage, of the same flavor, or another flavor.
From the foregoing, it will readily be seen that the dispensing of carbonated beverages, in vending machines, is rendered easy, and is accomplished without the loss of beverage,
, or the use of expensive charging machines.
What is claimed is:
1. A carbonated beverage dispenser including a stationary section, and a removable section secured thereon and having communication therewith, said removable section being provided with means controlling said comnunication for releasing the beverage into the stationary section for dispensing.
2. A carbonated beverage dispenser comprising a stationary section provided with a dispensing means, a section containing a charged beverage and removably clamped to the stationary section in water tight relation thereto, and a valve in the connected end of the removable section operable through the other end of said removable section to discharge into the stationary section.
