UNITED STATES RESTORE B. LAMB, OF CAMDEN, NEW JERSEY.
I IMPROVEMENT IN lRONlNG-TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 172,750, dated January 25, 1876;
application filed December 1, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RESTORE B. LAMB, of the city and county of Camden and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ironing-Boards; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the nature thereof, sufficient to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to fully understand, make, and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a side elevation of an ironingboard, having my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the parts enlarged. Fig. 3 is a bottom view thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
My invention consists of an'ironing-board, which may be secured to and supported on a table.
The board has at one end a support and an attaching-clamp, said sup 'iortbein g connected to the board by a hinged joint, and intermediate of its end supports or rests, whereby the board will be properly elevated and firmly sustained in position, and ample space is pro vided for application of skirts, shirts, 85c.
Referring to the drawings, A represents an ironing-board, to the under side of which, at or near one end, there is hinged, as at a, a supporting-arm, B.
0 represents rests or supports, which are secured to the under side of the board at points intermediate of the ends.
From the lower portion of the arm B-there projects inwardly a plate, D, and below the same there is a boss or plate, E, in which is fitted a screw, F.
The height of the rests or supports G Will be equal to the distance between the plate D and the board A.
The operation is as follows: The board A is to be supported on a table, which may be of the form in general use in kitchens, and the end or side of the top of the table will be titted between the plateD and the boss or plate E, so that the support 0 will rest on said top.
The screw F is then tightened, and it will be found that the board is firmly clamped to the table, and steadily supported thereon.
The portion of the board opposite to that to which the arm B is secured will have its sides free, so that the ironer can move freely around said sides. Moreover, skirts, shirts, and similar garments may be easily applied to the board; and this is possible to the extreme length of the board, as the latter may be elevated, the hinge orjoint a of the arm B constituting the axis of the board.
When the ironing is completed the screw F is loosed, and the board may then be removed from the table, the arm'B, folded and the entire device nicely stowed away.
The arm B and rests (J may be applied to an ironing-board in use, by simply screwing, nailing, or otherwise fastening them in position.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, with the board A, of the supporting and clamping arm B, connected to the board by hinged joints a a, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The board A, and the supporting and clamping arm B connected thereto by hinged joints 0!. a, in combination with the inverted bow-rests 0, all constructed, arranged, and operating asset forth, and forming an improvement in ironing-boards, for the purpose specified.
Witnesses: RESTORE B. LAMB.
