DOOR-LOCK ATTACHMENT.

My invention relates to improvements in attachments for locks of the type wherein a slidable spring bolt is arranged to extend between the sash and jamb of a door or the a, like to prevent the manipulation and unauthorized opening of the lock by an instrument inserted between the sash and jaInb.
In mounting swinging doors and the like, a considerable clearance is commonly left 10 between the edges of the door sash and jainb to provide for possible swelling or expansion and to permit the tree swinging of the door.
This clearance is frequently greatly increased by the shrinking of the door sash after the 15. door is hung. Locks are commonly mounted upon the door sash, said locks being provided with slidahle bolts arranged to extend from the edge of the sash into a recess formed in the adjacent jamb, a striker plate being mounted upon the jainb to protect. said jainb from injury and marring of the jamb by the bolt. It has been found that such bolts, particularly bolts of the beveled latch type such as provided upon spring locks, night latch locks, and the like, may be readily manipulated and the door unlocked by inserting a strip of thin flexible material, such as celluloid, between the sash and jamb, the flexible material being such that it can be worked around the corner between thesash and jamb through the clearance commonly allowed, a practiced manipulation of the flexible strip operating to force back the bolt and permit the unauthorized opening of the door.
The present invention is directed to an improved device which will prevent a lock bolt from being engaged and manipulated in the above manner, the primary object being to provide an improved attachment which will effectually prevent the insertion of an instrument into prying engagement with the bolt.
Another object is to provide an improved device of the character described which may be easily and quickly applied and which may be used with many types of looks.
A further object is to provide a device which may be installed in connection with previously installed locks without eiiecting the operation of the lock and without altering the appearanceofthe door or look.

The striker plate 7 disclosed in the drawings is of the, type used for double bolt door locks whereina slidable bolt is provided in addition to the ordinary spring latch bolt. As only the spring latch bolt can be readily manipulated, the stops 8 are formed adjacent this bolt only. In operation, the stops 8 guard the edges of the bolt 4 so that a flexible instrument 11, such as a strip of celluloid orthe' like, such as 2 might be bent around the corner of the sash as shown in Fig. 1, cannot be worked'up or down against the beveled edge of the'bolt i to force the same back within the door lock. By placing the stops upon both sides, as well as 25 above and below the bolt, the bolt is guarded I I against engagement even though the instrument be placed at an angle such that a single stop upon either side of the bolt might be avoided, the arrangement of the stops in pairs v 30 operating to insure that the instrument will s be engaged and prevented from contacting with the bolt. While I have illustrated and described only in the preferred forms, the device is obviously subject' to modification in various ways without departing from the spirit of my inaovention.
