THERAPEUTICAL APPARATUS.
Application filed July 8, 1927. Serial No. 204,354.
This invention relates to a heat and light producing apparatus which may be used for therapeutical and other purposes, the general object of the invention being to provide a practically airtight container having a window therein and in which is located an electric bulb which acts through the air trapped in the container to produce heat and the rays of light from which, escaping through the window, can be directed upon portions of the body of a patient for the treatments of certain diseases.
Another object of the invention is to provide the container with ports which may be closed or opened.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invent-ion in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation of the device, with parts in section.
Figure 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
In these views, A indicates a container which is formed of the lower section 1 and the upper section 2, the upper section telescoping into the lower section and the upper section having a lower bead 3 for snugly engaging the interior walls of the section 1 and with a large upper bead 4 which is adapted to rest upon the top of the section 1 to prevent the entrance of air into the container or the escape of air therefrom. If desired or necessary, a gasket may be placed between the contacting portions of the bead 4 and the top of the container 1.
Registering openings 5 and 6 are formed in the two sections and the opening 5 in the lower section is covered by a transparent member 7 which may be composed of material suitable to produce beneficial rays from the electric bulb 8 placed in the container.
The socket 9 of said bulb is fastened to the top of the section 2 and the conductors 10 for connecting the socket to a source of supply, pass through a handle 11 which is connected with the upper end of the socket by'a ball and socket joint 12. Ports 13 are formed in the upper section below the head 4 so that by partially pulling the section 2 from the section 1, these ports will be exposed to permit air to enter the container or to escape therefrom.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a device which can be used to produce heat and light, the light rays passing through the window. The device is mainly designed for therapeutical purposes, though it may be used for heating purposes only, such as in an incubator. By having the bead 4 engage the top of the section 1, the air is trapped in the container, but by partly raising the section 2, air can pass into and out of the container.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. A therapeutic lamp comprising a container formed of two sections, one section partly fitted within the other and slidably positioned therein, means for providing an air-tight joint between the sections, said section having openings at an appropriate point in its length wholly positioned within the other section when the parts are associated for use, said openings being utilized to admit or discharge air to or from the container when the first mentioned section is removed partly from the second mentioned section, said sections having registering openings, a transparent member covering the opening of the outer sect-ion, and an electric bulb arranged within the container and located directly opposite the transparent member.
2. A therapeutic lamp comprising a container including an inner and outer section, said inner section being slidably received by the outer section, a bead formed on the lower end of the inner section to engage the wall of the outer section, a second bead formed on the inner section at an appropriate point in its length and adapted to repose upon the upper edge of the outer section, and cooperating with the first mentioned bead to provide an air-tight container, said sections having registering openings, a transparent member covtion, said openings being exposed When the inner section is partly removed from the outer section to permit air to enter the container 1 or escape therefrom.
