UNITED STATES 1,726,735 PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES F. FIRESTONE, or DOWAGIAC, MICHIGAN, nssrenon' TO THE nnoxwr'rn COM- PANY, or nowAeI'Ao, MICHIGAN.
GAS OVEN.
Application filed. August 18, 1928'. Serial No. 300,459.
The main object of this invention is to provide an improved gas oven in which the temperature is very uniform throughout the oven.
A further object is to provide an improved gas oven which is not likely to burn the articles therein, even when placed low in the oven.
Objects relating to details and economies of my improvements will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow. The invention is defined in the claims.
A structure which embodies the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a front perspective view of my improved oven, parts being broken away to show structural details.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section from front to 20 rear on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing, I provide an outer casing having side walls 1, a top 2, a rear wall 3 and a bottom 4. The front 5 is provided with a door opening, a door 6 being hinged at the bottom to swing downwardly. The burner is shown conventionally at 7.
An opening 8 is provided in the bottom 4 to admit secondary air. The top 2 has a centrally disposed flue opening 9 at the rear 30 thereof.
I provide an inner top wall 10 spaced from the casing top 2 providing a flue chamber 11 at the top of the oven. The inner end walls 12 are arranged in spaced relation to the side walls 1 to provide vertical circulating flues 13, the upper edges 14 of these end walls being spaced from the inner top wall 10 so that the fines deliver in the top of the oven chamber.
The bottom 15 meets the end walls but its rear edge is spaced from the rear inner wall 16 and its front edge is spaced from the door providing circulating passages 17 and 18 at the rear and front edges, respectively, of the bottom. The inner top 10 extends over the rear inner wall 16 closing the space 19 between the rear walls at the top.
The inner top wall 10 is provided with a series of transversely disposed openings 21 adjacent its front edge so that the heated gases and products of combustion are discharged from the oven chamber into the flue chamber 11 only through these openings, the top wall 10 being otherwise imperforate.
In the embodiment illustrated I provide a pair of spaced flue baffles 22 which project forwardly from the flue opening, and a longitudinal baffle 23 which is arranged in spaced relation to the front ends of' the baiiies 22 and between them and the openings 21. The bafiies 24 project rearwardly from the ends of the bafiie 23 so that'the discharge'of heated gases and products of combustion is checked and they are compelled to flow over substantially the entire top wall.
VVith' this arrangement of parts the oven chamber is very evenly heated throughout and the circulation is such that burning is minimized, even of articles placed low in the oven chamber. The end walls are provided with grid ledges 25 formed in the embodiment illustrated by corrugation-like folds in the end walls.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In an oven, the combination of an outer casing comprising top, bottom, rear and side walls and provided with a door, said casing having a flue opening in its top disposed centrally at the rear thereof, a burner disposed at the bottom of the casing, inner top, back and side walls spaced from the corresponding walls of the outer casing, the upper edges of the side walls terminating in spaced relation to the inner top wall, the space between the back walls being closed at the top by the inner top wall, an inner bottom disposed above the burner with its ends meeting the inner side walls and its front and rear edges spaced from the door and inner back wall, respectively, providing transverse circulating openings at the front andrear of said bottom and end circulating flues open at the top of the end wall, the inner top wall having a series of transversely disposed openings adjacent its front edge, said inner walls being otherwise imperforate, a pair of spaced flue baffle members disposed between said top walls to project forwardly from the flue opening providing a delivery passage opening to the vent, and a longitudinal baffle member disposed in spaced relation to the front ends of said bafiie members and to said openings in said inner top wall and having transverse baffle members extending rearwardly from the ends thereof in spaced relation to said flue opening.
2. In an oven, the combination of an outer casing comprising top, bottom, rear and. side walls and provided with a door, a burner disposed at the bottom of the casing, inner top, back and side walls spaced from the corresponding walls of the outer casing, the upper edges of the side walls terminating in spaced relation to the inner top wall, the space between the back Walls being closed at the top by the inner top wall, and an inner bottom disposed above the burner With its ends meeting the inner side walls and its front and rear edges spaced from the door and inner back wall, respectively, providing transverse circulating openings at the front and rear of said bottom and end circulating tlues open at the top of the end wall, the inner top wall having a series of transversely disposed openings adjacent its front edge, said inner walls being otherwise imperforate, said casing having a fine opening at the rear .above said inner top wall.
3. In an oven, the combination of an outer caslng comprislng top, bottom, rear and side walls and provided with a door, a burner disposed at the bottom of the casing, inner top, back and side walls spaced from the corresponding walls of the outer casing, the upper edges of the side walls terminating in spaced relation to the inner top wall, and an inner bottom disposed above the burner With its ends meeting the inner side Walls and its front and rear edges spaced from the door and inner back Wall, respectively, providing transverse circulating openings at the front and rear of said bottom and end circulating flues open at the top of the end wall, the inner top wall having a series of transversely disposed openings adjacent its front edge, said inner walls being otherwise imperforate, said casing having a flue opening at the rear above said inner top wall.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
JAMES F. FIRESTONE.
