My invention relatesto mops, more particularly to mop heads, and the obJectsy of my invention are: first, to provide a mop` headu'hich, when fastened on the mop handle, will securethe mop in position and prevents its slipping or moving; second, to provide a mop head which .may be readily secured or removed from a mop handle; third, to provide a mop head of this class in' which a bolt holds the mop head clamped on the mop so that the mop head and mop may be readily shipped or transported intact without the handle portion; fourth, to provide a mop head of this class which is rigidly secured to the mop handle by a single, easily removable bolt; fifth, to provide a mop of this class in which the mop, the head and the handle may be readily assembled or the mop head and mop maybe readily positioned on the handle and secured Athereto so that it will not loosen; sixth, to provide a mop head of this class which is very simple and economical of construction, durable, easy to assemble, and which will not readily deteriorate or get outof order.

With these and other objects in view, as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features` of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference thereon, which form a part of this application, in which: y f

Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the several views of the drawings.

The mop handle 1, mop head 2, mop strands 3, bolt 4, constitute the principal parts and portions of my mop.

The handle l is similar to the conventional handle, and is provided near its one endwith a transversely extending hole l'nu therethrough. The mop head 2 is positioned `over the end of the handle l and consists of two extended, ys'emi-cylindrical'portions 2,a and 2b which extend part. way around and, tend to clamp the mop handle. The extended portions 2d and 2b are connected by means of an integral band portion 2c which widens out ais it joins the extended portions 2a and 2b and which with extended portions forms a substantially oval opening. The mop strands 4 arepositioned within the oval opening yformed by the band2c andthe lowerside which alinewith the beforementioned transversely extending hole la inthe mop handle l. Ezrte'ndingthrough the alined holes 2, 1a and 2' in the semi-cylindrical portion 2a, the handle 1 andthe portion 2b respectively is a bolt 4 which securedthe portions 2%* and 2b to the handle l." The bolt4` 4, is provided with a wing nut 4@ so that the mop head may be readily removed or placed on the mop handle; The bolt4 also holds the mop head in clampedposition around themop strands for shipping;

The m'op is made up as follows: The strands used to make up the mop are positioned over the band portion 2c sothat the opposite` ends are of equal length on the opposite' sides.

The opening formed of the band 2c and the lower sides of the portions 22L and 2b is filled with strands of mop head. When the opening is filled the members 2a and 2b are pressed together until the strands of the mop are held in position. Then 'the bolt 4 is thrust through the holes 2d and 2e in the portions 2a and 2b and is secured there by means of the wing nut 4a. The mop head and iop are then ready for shipment, transportation or sale as desired and the handle may be inserted after shipment or the handle may he positioned in the mop head before shipment which is done as follows:

The one end of the handle `member is placedin one of the semi-cylindrical portions 2a so that the hole la therein alines with vthe hole 2d in the semi-cylindrical portion.

The bolt 4 is thrust through, the other semicylindri'cal portion 2b is placed over the end of the bolt and the wing nut 4a is screwed on, securing the mop head to the mop handle.

Though I have shown v-a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, coinbination and arrangement, but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, coinbination and arrangement substantially as .set forth in the appended claims.

It is obvious that with this construction there isy provided a mop head in the form of two semi-cylindrical portions which, when the two portions 2a and 2b areheld together .y by the bolt 4, a cylindrical member is formed for receiving the handle l; that when they are held together, they grip the strands of the mop and securely hold them from moving or becoming loose between the band and the semicylindrical portions 2f andv 2b, that the heady is secured to the handle by means of a` bolt 4 and the curvature of the semicylindrical portions; that the head with the mop may be with or without the handle; and if shipped Without the handle, the bolt between the two semicylindrical portions will hold the mop strands securely in proper position ready to receive the handle;v that thev handle is secured rigidly andl quickly removable inthe cylindrical member formed by the two semicylindrical portions 2a and 2b and will not loosen or get out of order.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a mop headof the class described, a pair of plain, smooth, semi-cylindrical,

portions and said handle and adapted tov lsiniultaneously clamp said band on said mop strands and said clamp portions in rigid spaced relation on said handle.

2. In' a mop head ofthe class described, a pair of plain, smooth, semi-cylindrical, non-overlapping clamp portions adapted to fit on the end of a handle, a band connecting the lower ends thereof forming a clamp for clamping the mop strands, and a bolt extending through holes in said clamp portions for clamping said mop strands between the ends of said clamp portions and said band whereby said mop head may be shipped with the strands clamped in position without the handle. p

3. In a .mop head of the class described,

a pair Vof semi-cylindrical, non-overlapping clamp portions adapted to fit on the end of :y

a handle and be separated at their edges, each portion provided with a bolt hole therein at its middle portion, an integral mop strand clamping band oining the lower ends thereof provided with widened ends co-extensive with the width of said clamp portions and a bolt extending through said holes in said clamp portions adapted tosvclamp said bandand said widened ends on the mop strands and'hold said strands in rigid relation to said mop head, either with or with-- out, the handle. v Y y In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at San Diego, California, this 9th dayl of August, 1927.
