Description
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIC FRANK O. BADGER, OF GREENPOR'I, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO THE BADGER MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT lN BROILERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 180,519, dated August 1, 1876 application filed July 1, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK O. BADGER, of Greenport, in. the countyof Suffolk and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Broilers and I do here- 'by declare that the following is a full, clear,
ers and it consists in certain improvements therein, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawings, A designates the handle of a gridiron, B the frame, and O the cross-bars. Handle A is formed with an outer loop or handle proper, and two inner rods, A A, which extend across the gridiron-frame and are looped around the opposite side thereof at a a. A A also constitute two of the cross-bars of the gridiron. The remaining cross-bars, marked 0 O, extend across the frame B, parallel with rods A A, and are attached thereto at points b b on each side. Said frame is constructed of a single metal rod, bent into a rectangular parallelogram, preferably asquare, and having overlapping ends b b, which are bent around rods A A, as shown in Fig. 1, or around said rods and around the frame beyondrods A A, as shown in Fig. 2, thereby securing the handle and frame together without any additional fastening. To make the attachment firmer, the end of a cross-rod, O, is folded or looped around both ends b b, between rods A A. Two or more cross-rods, 0, may be in this way interposed between rods A A, and used to bind ment of said rods. Ends b b may be screwthreaded or serrated along their whole length, except the loop, to make the connection more perfect; but I prefer to have them serrated only at the points where the crosspiece, handles, or ends bend over. In case said ends b are wrapped around frame B beyond rods A A, as shown in Fig. 2, said frame is to be sor rated or screw-threaded in like manner at these points of attachment. The spaces between the various points of attachment. above enumerated are left smooth, thereby being made more convenient for handling, attractive in appearance, and easy of cleaning, than ifthe serrations were continued farther than is needful.
What I- claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The rectangular frame B, screw-threaded at a a and b b, and having loops b b at its ends, in combination with the handle A, passing through the loops b b, and provided with loops at its ends to engage around the screwthreads (0 a, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above 1 have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
FRANK OBADIAH BADGER.
Witnesses:
