My present invention relates to improve ments in pincushions, more particularly characterized as' a holder for the conventional straight shank pin extensively used in offices and other places of business, the principal object of the invention being to provide an article of this nature which is simple to manufacture and keep in order and which will be symmetrical and attractive in appearance.
Other objects and advantages of my invention will become apparent ensuing a perusal of the following specification read in conjunction with the annexed drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal medial vertical section of my invention, and,
Fig. 2 is a transverse medial vertical sec tion thereof.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view of a modified form of the base and weight portions of my invention.
In the two views, like characters of reference designate corresponding parts.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral 3 designates the base section, which includes an upstanding marginal wall a, providing a receptacle for the cushioning material 5, the latter being retained in place by the flexible covering 6 of any suitable fabric or the like. This covering is secured as shown by the cushioning material retaining member 7, which fits over the edges of the covering material overlying the upper edge of the marginal wall 4;, the member '7 being provided with an inwardly extending flange 8 for this purpose. The ends of the member 7 may be relatively thicker than the sides thereof to receive the screws 9 extending through the base 3.

terial in the base 3, which may be retained in position by screws 11.
To replace the covering material 6 when the same has been used to such an extent that the appearance of the same is impaired or when such covering material is worn out and will no longer fulfill its purpose, the screws 9 extending through the covering mateial retaining member 7 are removed and the latter is lifted from oil the base 3 so that the covering material 6 may be'removed and replaced.
Referring more particularly to Fig. 3, it will be noted that the base section 3 is provided with angularly directed openings therethrough and instead of the Weight 10 being inserted into the base 3, the moulten material which is to form the weight 10 is poured so that portions thereof will fill the angularly directed openings formed through the base. When the material,for1ning the weight 10, hardens, the portions which have filled the angularly directed openings in the base, will be locked so as to permanently retainthe weight secure to the upper face of the base 3. v
The device provides a very unique pin holder in that it will readily vaccommodate a considerable number of pins when made in a convenient size and it is very symmetrical in apperance and may also be utilized a paper weight as previously suggested.
What I claim as new is:
A device of the character described, comprising a base, having an upstandingmarginal wall; said base having angularly di rected openings formed therethrough; an auxiliary weight, formed from material poured over said base; said weight having integral retainer portions locked in said openings when said material becomes hard ened; a cushioning member and a means for retaining said member on said base.
