Description

v 15 of this procedure,
Patented Aug. 20, 1929.
PATENT OFFICE.
GOTTHARDTJA. SALLMANN, OF PLEISSA, NEAR LIMB ACH, GERMANY.
v PROCESS OF MAKING TEXTURE HAVING THE AIPEABANCE 013 LEATHER.
No Drawing. Application filed December 7, 1926, Serial No. 153,202, and in Germany December 8, 1925.
For different purposes'it is desirable to produce textiles having a making gloves from an imitation ofleather has heretofore been made by weaving the same upon a warp loom; the product which is obtained thereby has a somewhat dull uniform outer surface, the other side of the prodnot, however, had been of stripped appearance due to the so-called satin-rows.
In order to render these textiles useful for the manufacture of leather substitutes. two such pieces of knitted cloth were pasted together on the sides of thestripes. Inspite acter of the texture could still be easily discerned. I
By means of a 100m it is possible to manufacture a texture, in which there is obtained 2 a stronger knitted cloth with two fully equal sides and surfaces, which are also, relativelydull (so-called double-faced textiles). This product will have after grinding and dyeing alreadya certain'resemblance to natural leather, the. character of the texture, however, will yet be discernible. This is part- -1 due to the fact that the fine and small bers, which are/intended to cover up the several meshes of the texture, even if they are somewhat short, will yet project from the surface of the texture, so that there will be an P incomplete resemblance to leather.
Also attempts have been made, to further improve the texture by pressing the same .by 5 means of rollers of iron, wood or paper. In these cases, however, a drawback has been found to exist, which consists therein, that the texture will obtain an excessive shine by the operation of pressing the same b such rollers, so that the leather-hkeappearance, which had already been present/to some extent, will be again fully destroyed.
For this reason the above process of'further improving the texture by means of rollers has been discarded, and the product obtained in this case is used after a process of dyeing smooth but dull surface. Thus, for instance, the material for however, the woven charmeans of without any further treatment for the working process.
According to m invention, the textile after the process of dyeing is submitted to a further final treatment in order to obtain a completely dull and smooth surface having only the natural shine which is desired in order to imitate the appearance of leather. This treat- -ment consists therein, that the textlire is carried in dry condition through rollers of soft rubber, under a certain pressure. By this pressure the height of the several meshes of the texture will be rendered more uniform, and in addition to this the projecting fine 0o fibers will be pressed into the interstices of the meshes and anchored within the latter.
The pressing of the texture by means of rollers of rubber according to my invention may be used as the final step in the making of dyed'texturesfor materials knitted of cotton, wool, and natural and artificial silk.
I claim i 1. Method of producing upon dyed textiles a surface which is smooth and of a dull or natural shine concealing the knitted character of the textile, said textiles being similar to leather in their color and their nature, characterized by the distinctive feature that the textile or the article produced from the textile is carried in a dry condition through ressure rolls of soft rubber for improving the leather-like appearance.
2. Method of producing upon dyed textile fabric, knitted in such a manner as to have the appearance of leather the dull or natural shine, and further concealing the knitted character of the textile, which consists in the distinctive features that the textile after its manufacture, is dyed any known color of .8
leather and is carried in a dry condition through pressure rolls of soft rubber for improving the leather-like appearance of the textile.
In testimony signature.
