Description

FLYJRAE.
Patehted Jan.18,1876.
N. PETERS, PNOTO-LITNOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON. By C,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ORLANDO M. POND, OF INDEPENDENCE, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN FLY-TRAPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 172,484, dated January 18, 1876 application filed November 6, 1875. I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, O. M. POND, of Independence, in the county of Buchanan and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fly-Traps; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and
to the letters of reference marked thereon. which form part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a fly-trap, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical section of my fly-trap, through the line as .r, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the same, through the line 3 y of Fig. 1.
A represents the exterior wire-cloth cylinder, provided with metal rims a or around its ends for strengthening the same. B is the top or cover for the cylinder, made to fit within the same, and so that it can be easily removed when desired. Within the cylinder A is a cone, 0, also made of wire-cloth, and with a metal rim around its base. This cone is of such diameter that it will fit within the cylinder at its'lower end. D is the bottom of the fly-trap, made preferably of wood, turned with a beveled circumferential flange, 01, around its lower edge, and having suitable recesses b in its top to receive the bait. The cylinder A is provided with suitable feet 0, to rest upon the flange d of said bottom D. Gr is a rod, provided with screw-threads at one end, and a handle, H, at the other end. This rod is passed down through the center of the cap or cover B, and through the center of the cone 0, and is then screwed into the center of the bottom D, thus securing the parts together, and at the same time forming a means for carrying the trap from place to place, andfor hanging it up, if desired.
I am aware that a fly-trap consisting of a screen-cylinder, and having an interior screencone resting upon a base, is of itself not new.
I am also aware that a globular fly-trap having a central tube has been connected to a base by an elongated screw-rod hence I disclaim such as being my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the Wire-cloth cylinder A, having metal rims a a, the cover B, interior cone 0, bottom D, with flange d and. recesses b b, the screw-rod G, and handle H, all constructed as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
O. M. POND.
