My invention relates to folded blank boxes, and has particular reference to storage filing boxes for checks, notes and other documents.
Boxes of this character in order to present are necessarily made of heavy materialsuch as strawboard, corrugated cardboard and similar substances. To maintain such boxes in assembled relation, or set-up, has been found to be a difiicult roposition, since the usual tab and slot metl iod of holding boxes together does not work out where the boxes are of heavy material owing to its characteristic unflexibilit which prevents insertion of tabs in slots. 0 also, constant use of a box embodying the tab and slot construction results in the breaking of the tabs which renders the life of the box comparativel short. It is, therefore, the primary obj ect of my invention to provide in connection a box of this character a novel and improved means whereby the bottom and walls of a box may be secured in set-up relation without necessitating the use of tabs, the expedient employed being readily renewable, thus lengthening the life of the box even though it is frequently knocked down for packing away when not needed as a receptacle.
The invention also has for an object the provision of a box of this character embodying certain novel features of construction whereby a doubled and dust-proof bottom is provided, the inner and outer surfaces of which will be smooth so as not to catch on shelving or other su ports, the smooth interior portion of the bottom facilitating the packing and removal of the papers.
A still further object of the invention is to furnish a knock-down box which will be strong and durable, inexpensive to manufacture and which will be highly efficient in use.
The above and other objects to be developed during the course of the detailed description appearing hereinafter, are attained by certain novel features of construction and arrangement of thevarious parts as will be better understood upon reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and wherein the preferred embodiment of the invention is disclosed.

Referring specifically to the drawings, wherein like reference characters have been used throughout to designate similar parts, numerals 7 and 8 denote respectively, the end, and side walls of a knock-down box, these walls being bendably connected.
Referring now to Figs. 1,2 and 3, it will be noted that the end walls carry flaps 9 while the side walls 8 carry flaps 10 and 10, the former carrying along its outer longitudinal edge a strip of linen or other fabric material -11 which is adhesively secured thereto, and
the projecting portion of which is gummed as shown 'at 11.
This strip 11 may be secured to the outer portion of the flap 10 in any preferred manner, its specific attachment thereto being immaterial to the present invention. In closing the bottom of the box, the flap 10 is first bent inwardly as shown in Fig. 2, it being understood that the construction of the blank is such that bending of all flaps to osition may be accomplished without crack-- mg or breaking the stock thereof. The flap 10 having been bent as above described at right angles to the .wall 8 abuts a ainst the opposite wall 8 as shown in Fig'2, w ereupon the end flaps 9 are bent inwardly, after which the flap 10 carr ing the projecting adhesive stri 11 is bent ownwardly and the sur ace 11" of the strip' engaged a ong the upper outer portion of the wall 8 as shown in Fig. 3. The 111 upon the innerprojecting surface of t e str p 11 may be mois tened similarly to the gummed flap of an envelope to adhere to the side of the box.
Upon reference to Fig. 6 it will be noted mmed that the bottom construction 'of'the' boxjust described provides a double bottom therefor,-
the inner and outer surfaces of which will be smooth to prevent catching of the box on a support and facilitate the evenpacking of the contents ofthe box. Since the flaps 10 and 10 are both equal to the width of the the opposite side wall 8 as shown in the drawings which obviates any tendency of the box to bulge at the bottom as would be the case were the strip 11 secured to a flap of say half the width of the bottom of the box and engaged to an opposite flap of equal width.
The top of the box will be closed by end flaps 12 and side flaps 13 which are carried by the end walls 7 and side walls 8, respectively. The end flaps 12 are first turned in in closing the box, after which the longitudinal side flaps 13 are bent in, they being secured in closed position by any suitable expedient.

While I have described and illustrated herein the preferred embodiment of my invention, in accordance with the patent statutes, yet it will be distinctly understood that I do not propose to limit myself strictly to the details set forth, since various changes and modificationsthereof will immediately suggest themselves to those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of my invention, the scope of which is defined by the followin claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A folded blankfibox having end and side walls, a bottom comprising opposed side wall flaps each of which spans the distance between the side walls to define a double bottom, end bottom flaps insertible between said side bottom flaps, each of said end bottom flaps being considerably shorter than one half the length of said side bottom flaps whereby to define therebetween a secret chamber accessible from within or without said box by dropping or raising the outer and inner side bottom flaps, respectively, and means for normally holding the free edge of the outer side bottom flap in contact with the lower edge of the adjacent side wall.
2. A box formed from a thick walled fibre tube of integral parallelopiped configuration having side and end walls and. having incisions at the top and bottom thereof at the angles of the parallelopiped shaped tube, the incisions at the bottom being approximately twice the length of the incisions at the top, the material between the incisions forming fiaps bendable along a transverse lineat the inner ends of the incisions to form top and bottom walls for the box, theside flaps at the bottom being of suflicient length to bridge the space between the side walls of the parallelopiped tube, the end bottom flaps being disposed when folded between said folded side bottom flaps, thereby defining a spaced double dust proof bottom wall, each end bottom flap being less than half the length of the bottom side flaps whereby to define a secret chamber of considerable area between the opposed faces of said side bottom flaps and the ends of the end bottom flaps, the side top flaps being adapted when folded to meet at the median line of said top wall, and a strip of adhesive material extending along the. entire length of one of said side bottom flaps and adapted to be secured to the opposite side wall in order to secure all of said bottom flaps and normally seal said secret chamber.
