Description

Aug. 6, 1929. A. D. NICHOLSON SPRAY HEAD mm m n N U EH 4 Z 6 M F m n w m z 3 J 6 /M/K/V 7/2494 F 9 35 7 6 6 Fatented Aug. 6, 1929.
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. I
SPRAY HEAD.
Application filed April 6,
My invention relates to improvements in spray heads for shower baths and the object of the invention is to provide an attachment which will permit of providing instantaneously either a shower directed. hmgitiulinally of the bath, or a single strean'i directed down- .a l from the head into the bath, when it is desired to supply water to the bath in the ordinary way.
It consists essentially of the arran cg'enuurt and construction of parts as hereinafter more particularly explained.
Fig. l is a perspective View o't' a :tra;.;:n1entary portion eta/bath head showing; the spray head. and my attaclnuent connected thereto.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view showing the parts in the position they assume when used as shower.
Fig. 3 is a similar view to Fig. 2 showing the parts in the position they assume when a single lilling stream is desired.
In the drawings like characters of reference indicate em'responding parts in each ligure.
1 indicates a fragmentary portion of a bath head through which the water supply pipe 2 (extends. 3 is a spray head which is screwed or otherwise secured to the inner end (it the supply pipe 2. 'lhe spray head is hollow and :is provided with the usual perforetell front wall 3.
are lugs which extend upward trout the periphery oi the spray head adjacent to the bath head '1. The spray head 3 is preferably in the tor-in oi a cone 'trustuni. 5 is a cover member which is oi substantially the same term as the spray head so as to fit around the same, and is n-ovided. with an outwardly inclined iunierjtorate trout wall (3' which forms an intervening space between itselli' and the perforated wall (it the spray head in which the. line strei'uns ot vater passing: through the perforations ot the spray head gather together into a single stream.
I The stream so tfil'l'nid passes down through a slotted opening 7 termed in the periphery ot the cover 5 adjacent to the wall 6, so as to discharge such single stream o't water do wewardly into the bath. The front wall 6 of the cover preferal'ily is projected downward in the form of a tongue 8 which prevents any tendency for the water to splash outward as it discharges through the slot 7. The cover 5 is also provided with a lug 9 which is pivoted between the lugs 4. by a. pin 10,
1929. Serial No. 353,057.
It it desired to use the spray head in the ordinary way as a spray, all it is necessary to do is to swing the cover member 5 upward into the position shown in Fig. 2. If it is desired to fill the bath in the ordinary way, the cover member 5 is swung downward into the position shown in 3 so as to extend over the spray head and thereby deflect the streams of water downward in a single stream into the bath. F
From this description it will be seen that I have devised a very simple form of attachment for a spray head which will readily permit the use of the head either as a spray or as a tiller tor the bath.
Vihat 1 cl aim as my invention is 1- l. The combination with the water supply pipe ot a bath tub, of a spray head secured to the end ot the supply pipe, and a coverniember adapted to be applied thereto to extend over the pertorations ot the head to direct the sprayed water downward in a single stream.-
2. The combination with the water supply pipe of a bath tub, of a spray head secured to the end of the water supply pipe, a cover member extending over the head to form an intervening space between the head and itself, and a discharge opening formed in the lower peripheral portion of the cover member conununicating with said interspace.
3. The combination with the water supply pipe of a bath tub, of a spray head secured to the end of the water supply pipe, a cover member extending over the head to form an 'intervening;' space between the head and itseli and having a discharge opening formed in the lower peripheral portion oi the cover member conunuuicating with said interspata'i and a tonguedike portion extending down ward from the front edge off the discharge opening.
' The combination with the water supply pipe of a bath tub ot a spray head secured. to the water supply pipe, :1 cover member having an. iinperto .a-l'e outer wall extending over the spray head and in spaced relation with the perforated wall of the head and ha vine a discharge orifice in its lower peripheral portion adjacent such impertorate wall and a hinged connection between the upper por tion of the cover neinber and the head.
