UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
REMUS D. HALE, OF TBANSITVILLE, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN WHIFFLETREES.
Specification forming part of LettersPatent No. 172,266, dated Januaty 18, 1876 application filed July 3, 1875. i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, REMUs D. HALE, of Transitville, Tippecanoe county, Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Whiffletree Attachment, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of a dovetailshaped projection on the under side of the whiffletree sliding into a corresponding groove in the top of a stud pivoted in the evener, and fastening by a snapspring, so as to be easily and qnickly'connected and disconnected.
Figure l is side elevation of the evener and whiffletree. Fig.2 is a top view, and Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on the line as as, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate sponding parts.
A is the whiffletree B, the dovetailed projection which slides into .a corresponding groove in the top of the stud O, which is pivoted to the evener D, and E is the fastening spring, which snaps into a socket in the bot- .ont of the notch tom of the groove of the stud, so as to prevent the whiffletree from working. out. The spring has a finger-pin, F, by which to lift it when the whiffletree is-to be detached.
The dovetailed projection slides in the groove fromthe back of the evener, so that the draft tends to keep it in place.
. Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The \vhiffletree connected to the evener by the dovetailed projection B and correspondingly-notched swivel-studs G, substantially as specified. V
2. The combination of the snap-spring E with the dovetailed projection D and the grooved stud G, substantially as specified.
