Description

July 16, 1929. E. J. MARTINEAU I CE CREAM DIPPER Filed June 21, 1928 ATTORNEY Patented July 16, 1929.
EDWARD J'. MARTINEAU, OF SEATTLE,'WASHINGTON.
ICE-CREAM DEEPER.
Application filed June 21,
This invention relates to improvements in clippers for ice cream. and has for its object the provision of a dipper whichis of simple construction, durable and cheap to manufacture.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a dipper by means of which the quantity of ice cream measured will be the same each consecutive measuring.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical section of the dipper.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the same.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates a cylindrical cup which is integral with a tube portion 2, the said tube portion having a spiral cut 3 extending from the top of the cup 1 to a handle 9 which extends at right angles to the tube.
A rod 5 connected to an ejector plate 6 is mounted for sliding movement in the tube 2 and has a screw-threaded stud. 4 which projects through the spiral cut 3 and serves to twist the rod on its downward movement.
The ejector plate is carried internally of the cup and acts as a follower,- forcing the ice cream out of the cup upon depression of the rod 5.
A shell 8 sliding between the tube and the rod is secured to the top oi the rod by a screw A spring 10 bears against the bottom of t. the shell and an internal shoulder 13 is formed on the tube 2 and holds the ejector plate in uppermost position.
The top of the cup 1 is provided with vent holes 12 to allow free movement of the plate 6.
In operation, the dipper is grasped by the handle 9 and forced into the ice cream, as
1928. Serial No. 287,287.
shown at 11. This action fills the cup with ice cream and subsequent withdrawal of the dipper brings the cup 1 loaded with ice cream out of the body of the cream. The ejector plate is then forced downward by depressing the'shell 8, the rod 2 moving downward in a 4 twistingmovement due to the spiral slot 3 an d the stud 4, thereby forcing the ice cream out of the cup 1 by means of the ejector plate. The spring 10 returns the ejector plate to its uppermost position.
What is claimed to be new is In an ice cream dipper, a cup having vent holes in the top, a stem integral with the cup and extending therefrom and provided. with a. bore, the upper portion of which is en- 5 larged, forming a shoulder at the bottom of the enlarged portion, a handle secured to the upper end of the stein, the outer periphery of the stem having a spiral cut at a point below the horizontal plane of the shoulder and run ning toward the cup, a rod slidably mounted in the bore of the stem and projecting into the cup at one end and above the handle at the other end, a stud threaded into the rod and projecting through the spiral cut in the stem, an ejector plate secured to the lower end oi? the rod within the cup, a sleeve closed at its upper end and fitted on the upper end of the rod and slidable in the enlarged portion of the bore, means for securing the sleeve to the rod, and a coil spring interposed between the shoulder in the bore and the lower end of the sleeve to normally hold the rod and ejector plate in uppermost position, whereby when the rod is depressed against the tension of the 75 spring the ejector-plate will rotate in the cup.
In testimony whereofv I afiix my signature.
EDTVARD J. Mi-XRTINEAU.
