Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
WILLIAM s. B. KING, OE BROOKLYN, E. D., NEw YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN GALLEV-SUPPORTERS Speeieation forming part of Letters Patent No. 172,033.. dated January 11,1876 application iled December 11, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. B. KING, of Brooklyn, E. D., in the county of Kings and State of N ew York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Galley-Supporter for Correcting, of which the following is a specification Figure l is a plan view of'a compositors taken through the line y y, Fig. 3.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved' device for supporting' a galley upon a compositor-s case while correcting, which shall be so constructed as to support the galley above the lower and most frequently' used Iow of boxes, and which shall be simple in construction and convenient in use.
The invention consistsin the supports formed of the body, the cross-heads, one or both, and the strengthening-plate, provided with the lon gi tudinal groove and the cross-groove, to adapt them to be used for supporting a galley upon a case, as hereinafter fully described.
A is the body of the support, which has a cross-head, B, formed upon its upper end, and a cross-head, C, upon its lower end. Upon the under side ot' the body A is formed a longitudinal groove, c1, to receive an upright partition of the case, said groove extending across the cross-heads B C, as shown in Fig. 3. Across the body A, just below the upper cross-head B, is formed a cross-groove, a2, to receive a cross-partition of the case. The upper part of the support A B U, where weakened by the cross-groove a2, is strengthened by a flange or plate, D, formed upon the upper part oi' the body A and cross-head B.
In using the supports they are placed upon the case, with their lower ends resting against the lower edge flange ot' the case-the longitudinal groove al upon an upright partition, and the cross-groove a? upon across-partition, ot' the case. The galley is then placed upon -the case, with its lower edge resting against the upper cross-heads B of the supports. This.
leaves the lower row of boxes uncovered, so
that access may be had to them 'without moving the galley.
The supports may be hung upon any of the higher cross-partitions of the case, if desired, and will support the galley from'said partition without having 'their lower ends supported.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The supports formed of' the body A, the cross-heads B C, one or both, and the strengthening-plate D, and provided with the longitudinal groove al and the cross-groove a2, to adapt them tobe used for supporting a galley upon a case, substantially aslherein shown and described.
WILLIAM S. B. KING. Witnesses:
