Description

PATENT OFFICE ALFRED JAMES JORDAN, OF HAMILTON, BERMUDA, ASSIGNOR TO SAMUEL STOCKTON VV-HITE, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN D ENTAL FLASKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 172,029, dated January 11, 1876 application filed December 17, 1875.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Beit known that I, ALFRED J AMEs J ORDAN, of Hamilton, in the Island of Bermuda, (one of the Bermuda Islands,) a subject of Great Britain, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dental Flasks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a view in perspective, and Fig. 2 a vertical central section through the apparatus.
My invention relates to dental flasks of that class in which the sections, when forced together in the ordinary press, are securely clamped by a separate detachable frame, which allows of the flask being removed from the press and handled to. any extent desired without detaching or displacing the parts.
My invention consists in applying to a sectional dental flask a turning clamping-frame, provided with depending arms, the ends of which are bent or inclined into a hook form, which act upon or engage with lugs or their equivalents on the opposite section to that on which the frame fits, whereby the sections are securely held together by simply turning the clamping-frame.
The sections A B of the flask proper need no particular description, as they are of the usual well-known interlocking form, except that the bottom section, in this instance, is provided with lugs a, with which the inclined ends 0 0t depending arms of a clamping-frame, O, (fitting, the upper section,) to lock theparts of In manipulating in this instance, upon engage when it is desired the flask together.
my improved flask the parts A B are pressed together by the usual screw-press, and the turning clamping-frame O is then applied so as to lock the sections securely together, after which the flask can be removed and handled to any extent desired without detaching or displacing the parts.
It will be observed that a clamping-frame constructed, as described, with the inclined ends 0, accommodates itself to the varying conditions of the flask, whether tightly or only partially closed, owing to an excess of material therein, and clamp equally and uniformly upon all sides, whereby the uniformity of the plate in the flask ispreserved.
The clamping-frame might be provided with books or eyes to facilitate its handling by proper tongs.
It is obvious that recesses or screw-threads could be used in place of the lugs a, in which case the hooks 0 would be bent inward to engage with the shoulders of, the recess or screw, instead of projecting laterally as they now do.
I am aware of the patent granted to O. G. French, August 10, 1869, in which a clamping-frame is used, provided with depending spring-arms adapted to catch in suitable projections in the flask-section opposite to that on which it rests; but such a device is not capable of the functions performed by my improvements.
I claim as myinvention The dentists flask hereinbefore described, consisting of the combination of the lower section provided with lugs, the upper section, and the turning clamping-frame, resting upon the upper section and provided with hooks or inclines which interlock with the lugs on the lower section, whereby the sections of the flask may be clamped together by turning the clamping-frame. v
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name.
ALFRED JAMES JORDAN.
