EXERCISING MACHINE.
Application filed August 4, 1928. Serial No. 297,538.
The invention relates to exercising machines of the kind employing a vibrating belt or girdle and more particularly to a portable type of such machine.
The object of the improvement is to provide means for firmly holding the portable machine in position upon a window sill, table or the like to permit use of the machine in the ordinary manner, allowing the person using the machine to rest the entire weight of the body against the girdle or belt without danger of dislodging the machine. 7
The above and other objects may. be at tained by constructing the device in the manner illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the machine in operation showing the improved attachment thereon for holding the machine in place upon a table or the like;

Fig. 3, a detached perspective view of the fastening attachment.

The mechanism of the exercising machine is enclosed within a housing 1 upon which is mounted an electric motor 2 for operating the eccentrics 3 to which the girdle or belt 1 may be attached in the usual manner.
Handles 5 and 6 may be provided upon thetop and side of the housing respectively for easily lifting the machine and moving it from place to place.
These portable machines do not have sufficient weight to permit of their being used for exercising unless they are fastened down in some manner in order to withstand the weight of the body upon the girdle or belt.
Various makeshift devices have been tried for holding these portable machines in place for exercising, such as belts, straps and the like connected to the housing of the machine and adapted to be tied around a table or wedged in a table or desk drawer or the like but such means is not satisfactory or prac-- tical.
The present invention contemplates the provision of an adjustable attachment which may be quickly and easily engaged over the edge of a table or desk or beneath a window sash or the like in order to firmly hold the ma chine in position and permit the person exercising to lean his full weight against the girdle or belt without danger of dislodging the machine.
The attachment for holding the machine in posit-ion upon the table or other support is substantially U shaped as shown generall at 7 comprising the back plate 8 extending downward beneath the edge of the housing of the machine and terminating in the outturned angular flange 9 which may be substantially horizontal.
This back plate is preferably adjustable vertically with reference to the housing and for this purpose may be provided with the arms 10 pivoted as at 11 near the forward end of the housing. 7
In order to hold the attaching plate in adjusted position arcuate slots 12 may be formed in the arms at a point near the attaching plate to receive studs 13 carried by the housing, wing nuts 14 being mounted upon the studs for holding the attachmentin adjusted position. I
In the operation of the machine the same may be placed upon a desk or the like as shown at 15, being located at the far side of the desk from the person exercising in the machine. The attaching plate 8 is engaged over the far edge 16 of the desk, thus permitting the person using the machine, as shown in Fig. 1, to throw the full Weight of the body against the girdle or belt 4 without danger of moving the machine upon the desk or table.
If it is desired to support the machine upon a window sill, as shown in Fig. 2, the attachment may be adjusted as shown in that figure so that the attaching plate 8 engages the outer edge of the inside sill 17 and the angular flange 9 rests upon the top of the outer sill 18.
The sash 19 may then be closed down upon the flange 9, holding the attaching plate 8 between the sash and the inside sill 17 thus permitting the operator to use the machine in the ordinary manner without dislodging the same from the window sill.
I claim:
1. An exercising machine having a girdle connected thereto at one side and an attaching plate at the opposite side depending below the bottom of the machine and adapted to contact with the edge of a table and the like upon which the exercising machine may be supported.
2. An exercising machine having a girdle connected thereto at one side and a vertically adjustable attaching plate at the opposite side depending below the bottom of the machine and adapted to contact with the edge of a table and the like upon which the exercising machine may be supported.
3. An exercising machine having a girdle connected thereto at one side and an attaching plate at the opposite side depending below the bottom of the machine and adapted to contact with the edge of a window sill upon which the machine may be supported and having a horizontal flange adapted to be received beneath the window sash.
4:. An exercising machine having a girdle connected thereto at one side and a vertically adjustable attaching plate at the opposite side depending below the bottom of the machine and adapted to contact with the edge of a Window sill upon which the machine may be supported and having a horizontal flange adapted to be received beneath the window sash.
5. An exercising machine having a girdle connected thereto at one side and an attaching plate at the opposite side depending below the bottom of the machine and adapted to contact with the edge of a table and the like upon which the exercising machine may be supported, the attaching plate having a pair of arms pivotally connected to the machine.
6. An exercising machine having a girdle connected thereto at one side, an attaching plate at the opposite side depending below the bottom of the machine and adapted to contact with the edge of a table and the like upon which the exercising machine may be supported, the attaching plate having a pair of arms pivotally connected to the machine, ancl means for holding the plate in adjusted position.
7. An exercising machine having a girdle connected thereto at one side and an attaching plate at the opposite side depending below the bottom of the machine and adapted to contact with the edge of a window sill upon which the machine may be supported and having a horizontal flange adapted to be received beneath the'window sash, the attaching plate having a pair of arms pivotally connected to the machine.
8. An exercising machine having a girdle connected thereto at one side, an attaching plate atthe opposite side depending below the bottom of the machine and adapted to contact with the edge of a window sill upon which the machine may be supported and having a horizontal flange adapted to be received beneath the window sash, the attaching plate having a pair of arms pivotally connected to the machine, and means for holding the plate in adjusted position.
