Application filed April 30, 1927. Serial No. 187,792.
This invention relates to an electric cigar lighter than can be attached to any conven: ient source of electricityso 'that'heat can be The heatin plug 25 is provided with a metal cap 26, av'mg a central opening at the top thereof and metal plug contacts 27 are a developed in a heating coil therein whenever attached to the bottom of the plug 25 b desired. The invention comprises an insu lating base with a (push plug for closing the circuit when desire The plug carrying the heating coil can be readily inserted and r eplaced for repairing or renewal.
The inventionwill be understood from the decription in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a vertical section through thedevice, and Fig. 2 is a section along the line 2 2 of Fig.1. In the drawings reference character 5 indicates a base of insulating material that may be made of porcelain, for example. It is provided with a shallow recess at the bottom thereof for felt 6, or the like, to prevent the device from scratching surfaces upon which it may be placed. Another recess 8 is providedv at the top of the device to receive the plug that carries the heating coil. Longitudinal openings 9 and 10 on opposite sides of the central axis of the device, extend through from the recess 8 to the bottom. A spring contact element 11 is mounted in the opening 9 and a spring contact element 12 is mounted in the opening 10. The lower portion of each contact 11 and 12 extends at ri ht an les to the main body portions thereof, and t e extended portion of the contact 12 is provided with a hole 13. An elongated plate 14 of stiif insulating material is provided with a hole 15 and a screw bolt 16 extends through the hole 15 of the insulating plate and the hole 13 of the spring contact 12. This screw bolt 16 extends through the central longitudinal opening 17 through the base 5, and is provided with a nut 18 for retaining the same in place. When the nut 18 is screwed up the plate 14 is drawn up into firm engagement with the extending portions of the spring contacts 11 and 12 so as to press the same against a face of the base 5, in order to secure the contacts in place in'the openings 9 and 10.
A push pin 19 extends through a hole 20 in the side of the base 5 opposite the contact 12, and is provided with a shoulder 21 to prevent it from passing outwardly through the hole, and its inner end is reduced in size and extends into a hole 22 in the spring contact 12. I 4
28 and a mica disc 30 is inserted between the coil 29 and the cap 26.
A hole 32 may be provided through the flanged portion of the base 5 near the bottom thereof, through which hole the electric cord 33 may be passed with the two wires thereof soldered 'or otherwise connected to the lower endsof thespring contacts 11 and 12. I
I claim:
1. In a cigar lighter, an insulating base havmgopenmgs therethrough, spring contacts in said openings, a plug having colltact elements to contact 'withsaids ring contacts and a heating coil between sai contact elements, means to maintain said spring contacts in place with one of them normally away from the correspondin contact element, and means to close the circuit through said coil temporarily.
2. In a cigar lighter, an insulating base having openings therethrough, spring contacts in said openings, a plug having contact elements to contact with said spring contacts and a heating coil between said contact ele ments, means comprising a plate of insulating material to maintain said spring contacts in place with one of them normally away from the corresponding contact element, and means to close the circuit through said coil temporarily.
3. In a cigar lighter, an insulating base having openings therethrough, spring contacts in said openings, a. plug having contact elements to contact with said spring contacts and'a heating coil between said contact elements, means to maintain said spring contacts in place with one of them normally away from the corresponding contact element, said means comprising a bolt extending into said base, and means to close the circuit through said coil temporarily.
4. In a cigar liglhter, an insulating base having openings t tacts in said openings havin bent portions to contact with a face of sald base, a plug erethrough, spring conhaving contact elements to contact with said spring contacts and a heating coil between said contact elements, means to maintain said spring contacts in place with one of them normally away from the corresponding contact element, and means to close the circuit throu h said coil temporarily.
5. I n a cigar lighter, a base of insulating material, recesses in the upper and lower portions of said base with openings connecting said recesses, a heating plug in said upper recess having contacts exten ing into said openings, spring contacts in said openin and means comprising a flat plate in said lower recess for retaining said spring contacts in place.
6. In a cigar lighter, a base of insulating material, recesses in the upper and lower portions of said base with openings connecting said recesses, a heating plug in said upper recess having contacts extending into said openings, spring contacts in said openings and means comprising a flat late in said lower recess for retaining sai spring contactsin place by pressing a portion thereof against the upper side of said recess.
